Forklift cabins: Crown Equipment Corp. has designed new hard and soft cabins
for the Crown C- 5 Series. The new designs are meant to improve operator comfort, visibility, and performance.
The hard cabin, which is constructed from tubular steel, is available for the
pneumatic tire model as a factory-installed option. It has a textured, sound-ab-sorbing surface to reduce noise; long, bar-style door handles for easy closing; and
two-way sliding, locking windows. Filtered fresh air, heat, and defrost controls are
built into the door assembly. The design also enables entry and exit on the right
side of the cabin.
The soft cabin is available both as a factory-installed option and as an aftermarket kit for user installation. It features an acrylic top and soft rear window and
doors that can be rolled up or down as weather conditions change. The soft cabin
can be ordered as a full cab, as a partial cab without doors, or in modular components that can be used to create a custom solution. (Crown Equipment Corp.,

Asset monitoring and tracking: MultiTrack from DPL Telematics can provide
wireless monitoring and remote tracking for any powered or unpowered asset.
This portable GPS unit requires no external wiring or antenna and can be installed
in seconds. Once installed, Multi Track allows managers to remotely monitor any
asset from a robust Internet-based software package or mobile app.
Because Multi Track is compact and portable, it can easily be moved between
assets. It also does not require any “sky view” and therefore can be hidden inside
or under certain assets. The device’s rugged, waterproof design allows it to be
used in harsh environments.
Powered by an internal battery, the unit can last up to 16 weeks between
charges. (DPL Telematics, www.dpltel.com)
Tier 4 Final-compliant forklifts: Hyster Co.
has launched its first big truck models that
are compliant with the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s (EPA) Tier 4 Final emis-
sions standards. According to Hyster, these
new models—which are designed for use
in ports, terminals, and heavy industry—will
provide fuel savings of up to 25 percent.
Hyster’s 40,000- to 70,000-pound trucks
and empty-container handlers now feature
a Tier 4 Final Cummins QSB 6.7-liter engine
with a ZF WG 211 5-speed powershift trans-
mission. The engine offers peak power of
230 horsepower for the H400-450HD/S and
empty-container handler models and 270
horsepower for the H550-700HD/S models.
Hyster’s 80,000- to 105,000-pound trucks
and ReachStackers, including the H1050-
1150HD-CH laden container handlers, now
come standard with a Tier 4 Final Cummins
QSL 9-liter engine with peak power of 363
horsepower with a Dana Spicer Off-Highway
TE 32 powershift transmission.
The company says that its aggressive move
toward Tier 4 Final compliance is the result
of the EPA’s requiring additional emission
reductions over Tier 4 Interim products.
Hyster says its 2014 models provide even
greater fuel savings than its Tier 4 Interim
products. As a result, the Tier 4 Final prod-
ucts reduce the total cost of ownership while
meeting the new emissions regulations.
The integrated drivetrain with emission
reduction package includes cooled exhaust
gas recirculation (EGR), a selective catalytic
reduction (SCR) system for nitrogen oxide
(NOx) reduction, a diesel oxidation catalyst
(DOC) for particulate matter removal, and
a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) delivery system. This package results in approximately
96 percent fewer particles (soot) and 94
percent less NOx compared with Tier 3
equivalents built before 2005, according to
Hyster. It requires no diesel particulate filter
(DPF), no extra operator intervention, and no
ash-cleaning service.
The new models also feature performance
optimization developments such as ECO-eLo mode, cooling on demand, RPM management, and alternate engine idle speed.
