AS ITS BUSINESS GREW,
Australian rental equipment
company Coates Hire needed a better way to manage its
largely decentralized, nationwide fleet of more than 160
trucks and network of 300-plus external transportation
partners. The company found what it was looking for
last year, implementing collaborative software systems
that have centralized transportation management, reduced
operating costs, and improved customer service levels. As
the company’s leaders explain, today Coates Hire is deliv-
ering the right equipment, in the right place, at the right
time—and in the safest, most efficient manner—to more
customers than ever before, thanks to its new transporta-
tion management and route planning solutions from logis-
tics technology developer Descartes Systems Group.

Finding a better route
LEADERS AT NEW JERSEY-BASED FURNIture maker Inmod knew there had to be a smarter way to manage the company’s transportation operations. The fast-growing international
manufacturer and distributor was looking for a
way to maintain quality and service levels while
reducing the amount of time associates spent
processing a rising volume of shipments. A new
transportation management system (TMS) from
Kuebix LLC was just what the doctor ordered,
and today the company spends about a third less
time processing shipments than it did just a few
years ago—allowing workers to get more orders out the
door faster than ever before.
KUEBIX TMS SAVES TIME, MONEY
Inmod implemented the Kuebix TMS in 2015, targeting
time savings as a key area for improvement. Before implementing the new TMS, Inmod’s logistics team could spend
upwards of 15 minutes to quote a single shipment—largely
because team members had to enter all of the shipment
information into each of the company’s six carriers’ websites to obtain a rate quote. The time-consuming process
made it difficult to keep up with the rising number of shipments as the company grew.
The Kuebix TMS solved the problem by allowing the
logistics team to view and compare rates side by side,
shipment. By leveraging the technology, Inmod has saved
about 40 hours each week in processing shipments. And
the benefits don’t end there. The company has managed to
save another 10 hours per week in the billing department by
leveraging the TMS’s automated invoice auditing process,
which uses an application programming interface (API)
that matches up each invoice against the quoted amount,
speeding up the entire process.
