Tray packaging system: Signode Industrial
Group has introduced a tray packaging solution. Featuring two key products—an orbital
stretch wrapper and the case sealer SP-304—
the system offers users improved product
integrity and increased sustainability. The
orbital wrapper is used to secure products to
trays, and the case sealer ensures proper closure and sealing of the protective box.
Prior to the product’s going into the outer
box, it’s first placed on a suitable tray (the
material type, size, and weight are determined
by the product) and placed inside the orbital
stretch wrapper. The wrapper then dispenses
the stretch film over and under the product,
securing it tightly to the tray. Once placed
in the outer box, the product is secured and
rarely requires additional protection.
When combined with the case sealer
SP-304, the tray packing system achieves
even greater results, the company says. An
automated three-flap folder provides quick
and uniform closure, and the boxes are automatically taped closed. The case sealer SP-304
comes equipped with interchangeable tape
cartridges and top squeezer rollers. The auto-mated CaseLocker ST tape cartridge requires
no lubrication and helps alleviate twisting
motions known to cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Semiautomatic and fully automatic
case sealer models are also available. (Signode

Container monitoring: Orbcomm Inc., a
provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) and
Internet of Things (Io T) solutions, has launched
its next-generation solution for remote monitoring and control of refrigerated containers
traveling by land, rail, or sea. Orbcomm’s CT
3000 series monitoring system provides wireless connectivity through its hardware and a
cloud-based analytics platform and information management engine for optimal asset
management and utilization.
Orbcomm’s CT 3000 series supports built-in and external sensors, cellular connectivity,
and wireless technologies and is engineered
to deliver data on asset location, status, performance, cargo-area temperature, and more.
The new series comes in two variants: the CT
3100, which can be temporarily installed to
monitor assets for a specific duration while on
a trip, aboard a vessel, or at a terminal; and
the CT 3000, which is permanently installed
on an asset for continuous tracking.
This container monitoring solution connects directly to the reefer to enable real-time alerts and two-way control, allowing
operators to quickly react to discrepancies.
