Security control: Rockwell Automation Inc.
has developed industrial control products that
will allow companies to deploy CIP (Critical
Infrastructure Protection) Security in their
operations. CIP Security was created by Odva,
an automation company, and is an extension
to the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP),
which is the application-layer protocol for
EtherNet/IP. According to the company, CIP
Security is an industrial automation protocol
to support transport layer security (TLS), the
most proven security standard in widespread
use on the Internet. Engineers will be able
to implement CIP Security in their systems
through Rockwell Automation products and
firmware updates to existing products such as
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controllers, communication modules, and Kinetix servo drives.
In addition, the newly enhanced
FactoryTalk Linx communications software
allows FactoryTalk visualization and information software running on a PC to communicate to CIP Security-enabled devices. The new
FactoryTalk Policy Manager tool within the
FactoryTalk software is used to implement
and configure security policies between CIP
Security-enabled devices.
Rockwell Automation developed this new
capability to work with existing industrial
control devices regardless of whether they
were designed to support CIP Security. This
allows industrial users to phase in security
over time and retrofit existing installations.

Fuel-efficient forklifts: Kion
North America has released
the Baoli Series 6012 forklifts.
Offered in two different models, KBD40 and KBD50,
the Baoli Series 6012 is a
four-wheel diesel truck equipped with single

while the KBD50’s lift capacity is 10,000
pounds. Both models have residual capacity
at height. The powerful Kohler Tier 4 turbod-iesel engine delivers 74 horsepower along
with torque to handle heavy loads. With
Kohler’s common rail direct-injection system
and electronic control unit with fuel mapping,
these trucks are designed to be fuel-efficient.
The Baoli KBD40/KBD50 is equipped with
standard comfort features at no extra cost,
including a tilting, adjustable steering column and a comfort suspension seat with a
high-visibility orange seatbelt. (Kion North

Conveyorized cubing and weighing system: Cubiscan has introduced the
CS 275, a conveyorized system designed to work in semiautomatic or automatic
mode. Operators can use the foot pedal to go at their own pace or build a fully
automated shipping system capable of scanning, weighing, cubing, and labeling.
In the semiautomatic mode, the CS 275 can be used in a back office or ship and
manifest line, and can integrate with UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, and
other enterprise and multicarrier platforms. In automatic mode, the system can
function as an integrated manifest line where 500 to 5,000 packages are shipped
a day. (Cubiscan, cubiscan.com)
