Logistics technology provider Zebra Technologies Corp. said it has launched two new lines of mobile computers designed to run Google Inc.’s Android operating system (OS), the technology that many users are choosing to succeed Microsoft Windows in enterprise handhelds.

Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Zebra said the MC3300 handheld computer series and the VC80x vehicle-mount mobile computer are intended to meet the demands of retail businesses from the front of the store to the warehouse or DC.

The MC3300 mobile computer has data-capture features that can scan both 1-D and 2-D bar codes at short or extended long range, and it offers both a large touchscreen display and a physical keypad that combine to support efficiency in fast-paced operations, Zebra said. The VC80x is the industry’s first Android-based vehicle-mount computer, with features that provide frost- and condensation-free operations intended to decrease device downtime and maintenance.

Both designs come with Zebra’s Mobility DNA software, a set of application development tools designed to simplify the transition to Android platforms from legacy Windows-based mobile technology. Microsoft is planning to end its support for the versions of its OS used on handheld devices.

MonarchFx partners with NFI to build first DC

Logistics service provider MonarchFx said it has chosen Chino, Calif., for the first of five distribution centers it plans to build nationwide and that it will construct the facility through a partnership with third-party logistics service provider (3PL) NFI Industries.

The other sites, planned for Northern New Jersey, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta, are expected to be operational by this year’s peak season. MonarchFx did not disclose the timetable for completing the Chino facility.

Launched in 2016 by Raleigh, N.C.-based Tompkins International, MonarchFx is an alliance of 3PLs, software developers, and shippers created to capture a share of the e-commerce fulfillment market for nationwide same-day, next-day, and second-day delivery.
