ENERGY-SAVING EQUIPMENT
Frozen-goods fulfillment
solution: Dematic, a supplier of integrated automated
technology, software, and services, has introduced an automated solution for cold chain
order fulfillment. The new
Multishuttle 2 Freezer system
offers a high-density, low-en-ergy-cost solution that’s designed specifically to meet cold chain
challenges and return profits quickly, the manufacturer says.
According to the company, this solution can help reduce
energy use and refrigeration costs, decrease labor requirements,
improve product handling and FIFO (first in/first out) rotation,
boost inventory accuracy, and provide full shipment traceability.
Dematic Multishuttle is an automated storage buffer for cartons, totes, trays, containers, and individual bundles. All variations of the Multishuttle (static and flex) can now operate at temperatures as low as - 30 degrees Celsius (- 22 degrees Fahrenheit),
which offers grocers and food manufacturers a full range of energy-efficient, high-density, and high-throughput storage solutions
for ambient, refrigerated, and freezer environments. (Dematic,

LED worklight: Big Ass Light, a division of Big Ass Fans,
has released its brightest battery-powered LED worklight to
date. The new Big Ass Light Bar features six distinct brightness
settings, from 80 lumens to 5,000 lumens, more than any other
battery-powered LED worklight, the company says.
The light bar comes with a high-capacity rechargeable battery
that provides 1. 5 hours of illumination at the brightest setting
and 48 hours at the dimmest.
The bar’s body is made from extruded aluminum as well as
high-quality polymers, resins, and rubberized components that
make it resistant to impact. (Big Ass Light, www.bigassfans.com)
Modular conveyor platform: Interroll’s new generation of
conveyor modules offer versatility with straights, curves, merges,
and transfers that fit and play together not unlike Lego bricks.
The modules deliver cost and energy efficiency with standardized
elements for simple on-site installation and reduced planning
effort, the company says.
Interroll’s RollerDrive is a zero-pressure accumulation conveying system offering 50-percent energy savings compared with a
centrally driven concept, the company says. In addition, the belt
conveyors are powered by compact space-saving drum motors,
allowing a throughput of up to 2. 5 meters ( 8. 2 feet) per second.
The conveyor platform is available in 24-volt or 400-volt drive
options. (Interroll, www.interroll.us)
LED light series: Foreverlamp has introduced its HB5 high-bay LED series designed specifically for high lumen, high ceiling,
750- to 1000-watt applications. According to the company,
the HB5 series can save more than 50 percent on energy costs
compared with metal halide and high-pressure sodium lighting
alternatives.
Foreverlamp’s new HB5 LED high-bay fixture is rated for
100,000 hours with minimal energy consumption at a total of
522 system watts. The lightweight luminaire weighs only 26
pounds for ease of installation in high ceiling mounting situations
and is available in both a traditional round high-bay reflector and
a classic high-bay housing.
The original HB Industrial Series featured a wide range of
lumen options from 18,500 to 30,000, providing improved optics
and glare control for ceiling heights of up to 35 feet. The new
HB5 offers an IP65 solution for ceiling heights of 35 feet and
higher. The HB5 is available in multiple voltage options, including
277 volts and 480 volts. (Foreverlamp, www.foreverlamp.com)
Space-saving AS/RS: Rack
& Roll Inc. has announced the
launch of its FloatingAisle, an
automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) designed to
increase the capacity of warehouses and cold storage facilities. Operators can use up to
90 percent of a building’s footprint for storage, and in many
cases, completely eliminate the
expense of new building construction, the company says. This
AS/RS allows access to any pallet in the warehouse within seconds, creating additional efficiencies in retrieval time, energy,
and labor.
The FloatingAisle consists of a racking system on rails, with
each electrically powered carriage and motor providing lateral
motion for vertically stacked pallets in the warehouse’s existing
configuration. The carriages can move independently or in a
group. This feature eliminates the need to move the entire row
of racks to access one pallet. A new aisle and access to any
pallet can be created anywhere in the storage area in under 30
seconds.
The system is controlled by a hardware and software system
managed by a simple easy-to-use touchscreen. An infrared detection system prevents accidents throughout the system.
For the cold storage industry, savings can be dramatic, Rack &
Roll Inc. says. For example, an existing 100,000-square-foot facility (half of which is typically aisle space) can hold an additional
40,000 square feet in inventory with no additional investment in
construction by eliminating fixed aisles.
The Rack & Roll system of rails and carriages uses the facility’s existing fixed racking inventory. New racks are brought in
as needed to increase storage density. (Rack & Roll Inc., www.
