Safety laser scanner: Sick has introduced its
newest safety laser scanner for use in both
indoor and outdoor applications. The out-
doorScan3 allows automated guided vehicle
(AGV) systems to navigate safely through
outdoor industrial environments.
With the company’s new outdoor-safe
HDDM scanning technology, the laser scanner can work without errors when exposed
to sunlight with an illumination intensity of up
to 40,000 lux. In addition, the intelligent software algorithm of the outdoorScan3 detects
rain and snow, easily filtering out these environmental influences. For example, rain up to
a precipitation intensity of 10 mm/h can be
filtered out. Even in fog with a
meteorological visual range of
up to 50 m, the outdoorScan3
detects all obstacles with reliability, due to its special fog
function.
AGV systems facilitate a
flexible and productive material flow and will be a key technology in automation concepts of the future, according
to Sick. However, these systems can only be used in a working environment shared by humans and machines with
the presence of safety laser scanners. With
the outdoorScan3, the company believes,
AGV systems will be able to perform tasks
outdoors with no physical partitions whatsoever and without having to significantly lower

Compact stretch wrapper: Signode
Industrial Group, a manufacturer of packaging consumables, tools, software, and equipment, has launched the newest generation
of its Octopus Stretch Wrapper. The new
Octopus Compact 20/Compact TSi series features a completely new design that provides
load containment while improving film usage
in space-limited warehouses and DCs, the
company says.
The Octopus Compact 20/Compact TSi
allows bottom-to-top or top-to-bottom automatic rotary ring stretch wrapping. The unit’s
compact and durable aluminum frame construction requires minimal assembly, guaranteeing ease of installation and minimal maintenance requirements, the company says.
Wrapping up to 40 loads per hour depending
on load size and wrap pattern, the machine
comes fully equipped with Muller’s patented
Easy S film carriage, which enables simple film
loading, maximizes pre-stretch performance,

Dock sealing system: Rite-Hite has introduced the PitMaster V dock-face sealing
system. Designed to seal open gaps on the dock face and pit floor in vertical-leveler
applications, the PitMaster saves energy, improves pit cleanliness, and helps reduce
infiltration of weather and contaminants, the company says.
The system features interactive sealing components that adjust automatically to
trailer and leveler lip position. The simple two-part system installs quickly, requiring
minimal dock downtime. Made of rugged materials designed to hold up over time,
the seal components are individually replaceable as needed. Designs are available
