Shipping rate technology: Technology
startup ShipHawk has launched a business
solutions package that makes it easy to find
and compare packing and shipping rates. The
package includes ShipHawk API—a suite that
provides packing and shipping data through
application programming interfaces (APIs),
widgets, and back-office tools.
Traditional shipping solutions provide only
estimates for packed items; businesses and
their customers then have to figure out for
themselves how to pack their items, what the
dimensions will be, and how much they will
weigh once packed.
With ShipHawk, businesses and their customers can access instant rate quotes without
having to figure out all the details. They provide basic information about the unpacked
(or packed) item, and ShipHawk does the rest,
providing on-demand packing and shipping
rates from a number of reputable carriers,
which allows its customers to make educated
buying decisions right at the point of sale.

Load-tracking app: Tranztec Solutions has
introduced VIA, an app that allows third-party
logistics service providers (3PLs) and brokers
to track and manage loads using any mobile
device. The app was developed to reduce the
amount of time companies spend tracking
carriers and to improve external fleet communication. VIA will allow 3PLs and brokers to
track their assigned trucks’ exact geographic
location in real time from the moment of
departure until the product is delivered.
Key features of VIA include real-time GPS
tracking, two-way communication between
operations and drivers, and integrated load
and stop information. The app also provides
arrival and departure status and integrates
proof of delivery and signatures into the
document imaging. The app can integrate
with transportation management systems like
TMW Suite, TL2000, and Truckmate.
VIA works on any mobile device, including, but not limited to, Android, Apple, and
Windows platforms. The driver simply logs on
with his or her mobile phone to begin transmitting data. Smartphone users access VIA
with their phone’s built-in browser or native
application, while standard mobile devices
can connect using text messaging.
The driver will be provided with data such
as load information, map details, special
instructions, reference numbers, and delivery notes. VIA is multilingual and can be
easily modified by using Tranzactor’s work-flow-based business rules. (Tranztec Solutions,
