Kansai Paint patents dispersing resin
Patent No. U.S. 7,271,213
Kansai Paint Co. has obtained a
patent for a water-based pigment dispersion comprised of a pigment dispersing resin, pigment, aqueous medium,
other pigment dispersing resin and,
optionally, dispersing agent. The pigment dispersing resin being a copolymer of polymerizable unsaturated
monomer containing at least one kind
of ionic functional group selected from
the group consisting of tertiary amino
group, quaternary ammonium salt and
sulfonic acid group; nonionic polymerizable unsaturated monomer having
polyoxyethylene chain; ultraviolet-absorbing polymerizable unsaturated
monomer and/or ultraviolet-stabilizing
polymerizable unsaturated monomer;
and other ethylenically unsaturated
monomer, the copolymer being a copolymerization product of 0.5-30% by
weight of ionic function group-contain-ing polymerizable unsaturated
monomer, 5-40% by weight of nonionic
polymerizable unsaturated monomer,
0.1-5% by weight of ultraviolet-stabilizing polymerizable unsaturated
monomer and 25-94.4% by weight of
other ethylenically unsaturated
monomer on the basis of the total
weight of the monomers, the other pigment dispersing resin being selected
from the group consisting of acrylic
resin having a weight average molecular weight within a range of 2,000-
150,000, an acid value in a range of 5-
150 and a hydroxyl value in a range of
10-160, and polyester resin having a
weight average molecular weight within a range of 1,000-100,000, an acid
value in a range of 5-150, and a hydroxyl value in a range of 10 to 160.
COATING SYSTEMS CONTAINING
MODIFIED CROSSLINKERS
Patent No. U.S. 7,267,845 B2
BASF Corp. has obtained a patent
for a coating composition comprised of
one or more organic resins comprising
functional groups reactive toward
alkoxyalkyl groups or alkylol groups;
and a crosslinker composition comprising at least one functionalized
crosslinker comprising an amino resin
core; and as substituents on the core:
one or more olefin functional groups
derived from the compounds selected
from the group consisting of amino-functional olefins, hydroxyl functional
olefins, aminoalkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids and acry-lamide-functional olefins; at least one
silicon-containing group; and at least
one group selected from the group
consisting of alkoxyalkyl, alkylol and
mixtures.
HENKEL PATENTS PRESSURE
SENSITIVE ADHESIVE
Patent No. U.S. 7,268,178 B2
Henkel has obtained a patent for a
hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive
composition comprised of at least one
tackifier component, at least one
styrene block copolymer, a plasticizer
component and at least one hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-butylene-styrene block copolymer in addition to
the at least one styrene block copolymer, wherein the hydrogenated
styrene-butadiene-butylene-styrene
block copolymer has a ratio of styrene
block sections to the total amounts of
olefin block and alkylene block in the
range from 20:80 to 80: 20.
TITANIUM DIOXIDE
PIGMENT COMPOSITE
Patent No. U.S. 7,264,672 B1
National Titanium Dioxide Co. Ltd.
has obtained a patent for a process of
making titanium dioxide particles, comprised of forming a slurry comprising
particles and a phosphate-containing
agent, the particles comprising titani-
um dioxide and alumina; milling the
slurry to form a homogeneous dispersion comprised of milled particles;
leaching the alumina off of the milled
particles to form leached particles in a
leached dispersion; treating the leached
dispersion under conditions to react the
leached alumina with the phosphate-containing agent to form aluminum
phosphate and to coat the leached particles with the aluminum phosphate
and form a slurry of coated particles.
ROHM AND HAAS PATENTS
COLORANTS AND DISPERSANTS
Patent No. U.S. 7,273,842 B1
Rohm and Haas Co. has been
granted a patent for a colorant composition comprised of at least one
chromophore, polymeric nanoparti-cles (PNPs), a locking agent, and
0.01-50% weight based on the weight
of the PNPs, of a PNP coacervation
aid; wherein the PNPs comprise, as
polymerized units, at least one multi-ethylenically unsaturated monomer;
wherein the PNPs have a mean
diameter in the range of from 1-50
nanometers, an acid value in the
range of from 0-700 mg KOH/g PNP
solids, an amine value in the range of
from 0-250, a hydroxyl number in the
range of from 0-250 mg KOH/g PNP
solids, and contain at least 2% of a
polarizable group, and wherein the colorant composition provides improved
colorant stability, improved colorant
acceptance into paint and coatings,
improved compatibility of colorants
with a wider range of paint and coating compositions, improved storage
stability, increased color strength
and reduced viscosity drop when
added to water-based paint , all relative to colorant compositions absent
PNPs and 0.01-50% weight, based on
the weight of the PNPs, of a PNP
coacervation aid. CW
