Henkel patents multi-stage curing adhesive
Patent No. U.S. 7,311,973 B2
Henkel has been granted a patent
for a flexible laminate comprised of
a first substrate consisting of plastic
film; a second substrate selected
from the group consisting of plastic
film and metal foil; and an irradiated adhesive composition positioned
between the first and second substrate, the adhesive composition is
comprised of components A, B and D.
Component A being at least one
polymer having a molecular weight
(Mn) of at least 800 that has at least
one functional group polymerizable
by irradiation with ultraviolet (UV)
light or with electron beams and has
at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of isocyanate groups and epoxy groups;
capable of reacting with a compound
having at least one acidic hydrogen
atom, component B being at least
one compound having a molecular
weight (Mn) of 100-8000 which has
at least two functional groups polymerizable by irradiation with UV
light or with electron beams; and
component D being a compound having at least two acidic hydrogen
atoms, wherein component A, component B and component D are each a
different compound.
BASF PATENTS
PIGMENT PREPARATIONS
Patent No. U.S. 7,318,864 B2
BASF has obtained a patent for
solid pigment preparation including as essential constituents from
60-<90% by weight of at least one
pigment, from 10-<40% by weight
of at least one nonionic surface-active additive based on poly-ethers, and from 0.1-10% by weight
of at least one anionic surface-active additive based on sulfonates, sulfates, phosphonates or
phosphates, the sum total of the
weight percentages not exceeding
100% by weight.

COATING WITH ACID FUNCTIONAL
ORGANOSILOXANE POLYOL
Patent No. U.S. 7,316,846 B2
PPG Industries has obtained a
patent for a method for improving a
property of a substrate, comprised of
applying to at least a portion of the
substrate a coating comprised of an
acid functional organosiloxane
derived from an organosiloxane polyol, wherein 1 to 50 percent of the acid
functionality has been neutralized.
ECOLOGY COATINGS PATENTS ENVI-
RONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,323,248 B2
Ecology Coatings, Inc. has been
granted a patent for an actinic radiation curable, substantially all solids
composition comprising a mixture of
at least one oligomer selected from a
group consisting of a urethane acrylate, an aliphatic urethane acrylate,
an aliphatic urethane triacrylate, a
hexafunctional urethane acrylate, a
siliconized urethane acrylate, an
aliphatic siliconized urethane acrylate, and combinations thereof,
wherein the at least one oligomer is
present in the mixture between 15-
40% of the composition by weight; at
least one monomer selected from a
group consisting of an isobomyl acrylate, a tetrahydrofurfuryl acrylate, a
propoxylated glyceryl triacrylate, and
combinations thereof; at least one free
radical photoinitiator; at least one surfactant; and at least one inorganic
nano-filler; wherein the composition
has a room temperature viscosity up
to approximately 500 centipoise;
wherein the composition is a clear coat
composition; and wherein the composition when cured as a coating on a
composite material is an abrasion and
scratch resistant coating having at
least one property selected from the
group consisting of at least 4H hardness; no yellowing after 7 weeks of
accelerated ultra-violet (IJY) radiation testing; 99+% adhesion after 7
weeks of accelerated UV radiation
testing; and no softening when wiped
at least once with cloth soaked with
methyl ethyl ketone wherein the composition is prepared using essentially
no solvents.
SUN CHEMICAL PATENTS
PIGMENT DISPERSION
Patent No. U.S. 7,300,512 B2
Sun Chemical Corp. has obtained
a patent for a process for preparing a
dispersion, comprised of premixing a
pigment by means of a high shear
mixer selected from the group consisting of a Cowles dissolver, a single
blade mixer, a Banbury mill and a
Gaullin homogenizer with a carrier
selected from the group consisting of
castor oil and a vegetable wax to produce a mixture; and effectively mixing the mixture by means of a bead
mill for a time sufficient to uniformly disperse the pigment in the carrier to produce a dispersion having a
particle size distribution. CW
