PARTNERS WITH DEVOE COATINGS
International Paint and its subsidiary,
Ceilcote USA, Inc., part of the
AkzoNobel family of companies, have
partnered with Devoe Coatings of
Canada, to deliver coating products to
customers throughout Western
Canada. AkzoNobel acquired ICI
Paints and its subsidiary, Devoe
Coatings, earlier this year. In an effort
to offer its Western Canadian customers in the oil, gas, industrial and
new construction industries a more
robust portfolio of fire-protection and
anti-corrosion coatings, International
Paint’s line of Chartek products and
Ceilcote’s anti-corrosion coatings, will
now be distributed through Devoe’s
existing stores and customer channels.
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS COMPLETES
THE ACQUISITION OF EURONAVY
The Sherwin-Williams Company has
closed a definitive agreement to acquire
Euronavy-Tintas Maritimas e Ind-ustriais S.A. of Portugal. Headquartered
in Lisbon, Portugal, Euronavy is
involved in marine and protective coatings applied to ships, off shore platforms,
storage tanks, steel, concrete and flooring. Euronavy became the first company
in the world to receive approval for a sol-
vent-free epoxy coating system. R&D
projects have also produced products for
underwater application. Founded in
1981, Euronavy has 40 employees across
its manufacturing and distribution platform with sales of less than $25 million.
Euronavy’s coatings are sold in Brazil,
Singapore, China, Vietnam, Dubai,
Europe, Portugal, Canada and the U.S.
TIKKURILA TO ACQUIRE
A SALES COMPANY IN SLOVAKIA
Tikkurila will strengthen its position in
Eastern Europe by acquiring the sales
company Finncolor Slovakia s.r.o. operating in Martin, Slovakia. Tikkurila will
purchase 100% of the company’s shares
from its management. The ownership
will be transferred to Tikkurila on
December 31, 2008, and the company
name will be changed into Tikkurila
Slovakia s.r.o. Until now, Finncolor
Slovakia has acted as Tikkurila’s
importer for decorative paints and
industrial coatings in Slovakia.
Tikkurila has been exporting its products to the country since the mid 1990s.
In 2007, Finncolor’s operations in the
BASF EXPANDS COATINGS BUSINESS IN ASEAN
BASF has expanded its coatings business in ASEAN
(The Association of Southeast Asian Nations), with
Thailand at the center, to serve the large coatings market in the region for motorcycles, industrial coatings and
the automotive industry.
BASF (Thai) Limited reached an agreement with Eason
Paint Plc (Thailand) to become the manufacturing base for
BASF customers across ASEAN, including automotive and
industrial coatings customers. BASF motorcycle coatings in
Thailand will be exclusively produced by Eason Paint.
BASF also signed an agreement to acquire the motorcycle coatings business of NOF (Thailand) Limited, establishing its own sales and marketing function in Thailand
to support customers in the ASEAN region.
The coatings market in ASEAN, with a total size of €2.8
billion, accounts for approximately 15% of the entire coatings market in Asia-Pacific. Thailand represents the largest
coatings market within ASEAN but there is also significant
growth in Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.
BASF (Thai) Limited signed an agreement with Eason Paint Plc
(Thai) to become the manufacturing base for BASF customers
across ASEAN, including automotive and industrial coatings customers. BASF motorcycle coatings will be produced in Thailand by
Eason Paint.
