Eliokem appoints Carabin CEO
Philippe Carabin has been named chief
executive officer of
Eliokem International. He
replaces Jacques
Collonge, who has
been CEO of
Eliokem since the
creation of the company in December
2001. Collonge will Philippe Carabin
retire after 35 years
of service to the company.
Carabin joined Goodyear’s Le Havre
plant in 1971. In 1991 he was appointed
administration and accounting manager of Goodyear Specialty Chemicals and
in December 2001 he was named chief
financial officer of Eliokem. Since 2005,
in addition to his role as CFO, he has
ben responsible for IT, general administration, supply chain and the purchase
of non-strategic raw materials.

PPG APPOINTS KAHLE CHIEF
TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
PPG Industries has announced that
Charles F. Kahle vice president, coatings research and development, is taking on additional responsibility as chief
technology officer for PPG. Kahle will
report to chairman and chief executive
officer Charles E. Bunch and join PPG’s
operating committee in his new combined role. He will continue to be based
at PPG’s coatings research center in
Allison Park, PA and will work closely
with PPG’s business leadership and the
board’s technology and environment
committee. While retaining direct
responsibility for coatings research and
development, Kahle also will assume
functional responsibility for glass and
chemicals research as well as global
product development.
EASTMAN CHEMICAL
APPOINTS ROGERS CEO
Eastman Chemical Company’s board of
directors has appointed James P.
Rogers president and chief executive
officer, effective May 2009. The board
also appointed Rogers director, effective
immediately. Rogers is currently president of the company and chemicals and
fibers business group head.
Rogers has served in his current role
since 2006. Prior to that, he had been
executive vice president of the company
since 2003. He joined Eastman in 1999
as senior vice president and chief financial officer, and was later appointed
chief operations officer of Eastman
Division.
BIDDLE TO RETIRE
FROM REICHHOLD
Senior vice president, global coatings,
W. Rodney Biddle, has announced his
“second” retirement. Biddle is a forty-one year veteran of Reichhold. He
joined the company in 1964 and worked
his way up in the company over the
next 35 years at a variety of jobs ranging from yard utility man to sales and
management roles. He was named vice
president and general manager of the
company’s emulsion business in 1999.
He first retired in 2002. In 2004 he
returned to serve as a senior advisor for
the company’s coatings business. Soon
after, he was named vice president of
Reichhold’s North American coatings
business. A year later, as a member of
Reichhold’s executive team and senior
VP for global coatings, Biddle was part
of the management team which put
together the management buyout of the
company from DIC, making him an
owner of the company.
HUNTSMAN APPOINTS NEW
PRESIDENT FOR PIGMENTS
Huntsman Corp. has appointed Simon
Turner president of its pigments division. Turner most recently served as
senior vice president of the pigments
division and, previously, as vice president of global sales. He has been
employed in the pigments division for
19 years. Turner replaces Thomas
Keenan who will continue to serve the
company in a corporate capacity.
BASF NAMES HEINZ TO HEAD
GLOBAL TEAM TO INTEGRATE CIBA
Michael Heinz, the current head of
BASF’s crop protection division, has
been appointed head of the global Ciba
integration team as of February 1, 2009.
Heinz will be succeeded by Markus
Heldt who is currently responsible for
the company’s crop protection business
in North America.
Heinz has held a number of positions
in fine chemicals and crop protection in
North, South and Central America
since joining BASF in 1987. In 1999, he
was appointed general manager of
BASF’s activities in Mexico and Central
America. In 2002, he assumed responsibility for global strategic marketing of
BASF’s crop protection products before
being made head of the crop protection
division in 2005.
Heldt joined BASF in 2000 following
the company’s acquisition of American
Cyanamid. In 2005, he assumed responsibility for the crop protection business
in North America.
