DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings
has added two distribution partners
and new locations for two existing partners in its North American sales and
service network. The new distributors
are Aircraft Paint Supply in Chillicothe,
OH, and Hightower Supply in Grand
Junction, CO. Current distributor Aviall
Services Inc., which already services
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace in Dallas
and Atlanta, has added a location in
Fort Lauderdale, FL. Aero Performance
Coatings adds a San Antonio, TX, location in addition to existing authorized
distributorships in Fort Worth, TX,
Cahokia, IL, Lake City, FL and
Harrisburg, PA. These additions
increase Sherwin-Williams Aerospace’s U.S. distribution network by
nearly 30%, bringing the total number
of authorized distribution locations to
18 throughout the country, as well as
other distribution points in Canada
and Mexico.
wear, high hardness and a low coefficient
of friction. Applying the Adamant coating to other materials gives extended life
in high temperature, chemically aggressive and abrasive environments.
The low temperature process allows
the coating of a range of substrates
from steel to thermoplastics to give
components such as bearings and
valves, for example, reduced friction,
enhanced wear resistance and load
carrying characteristics.
The low temperatures at which the
coating can be applied mean that there
is minimal effect on the substrate material and the process is applicable to a
wide range of materials.
Oxford, UK-based Diamond Hard
Surfaces recently won its first production orders for mechanical seals used in
compressors and pumps in the oil/gas
industry. Test coatings are being carried
out with potential customers for a range
of applications from ball/gate valves to
down-hole oil drilling to Formula One
engine components.

A PROFILE OF THE TURKISH PAINT INDUSTRY
Information Research (IRL) has recently published a third edition of “A
Profile of the Turkish Paint Industry.” The Turkish paint and coatings
market has been estimated at 600,000 tons in 2008. A temporary contraction in the Turkish decorative sector and strong growth in the manufacturing industry has almost equalized the industrial and decorative
coatings markets to approximately 300,000 tons each, according to the
report. The market is forecast to grow by an average of 8.6% per annum
up until 2013, when it may reach almost 909,000 tons.
The decorative paint market has contracted slightly for a number of reasons, including delays to projects, higher interest rates and caution on the part
of investors and homebuyers. The Turkish passion for DIY also seems to have
abated for now, and with a young population and lots of cheap labor the trend
has been towards consumers buying paint and then paying for professional
applicators to carry out the work required. Therefore, long-term recovery is
likely to favor growth in the professional segment unless paint companies
employ a fresh round of measures to stimulate consumer interest in paint.
Furthermore, the coming years will see a significant expansion of the
Turkish DIY retail segment as major companies such as Kingfisher and
BauMax press ahead with plans for new stores.
The Turkish industrial coatings market continues to be a success story as a
host of manufacturing sectors demonstrate strong growth. Among them are
the automotive, ACE, white goods and boatbuilding industries.
The automotive coatings sector is expected to grow at eight percent per
annum, reflecting a recent and ongoing wave of industry investment. This has
also been anticipated by the coatings industry with major companies such as
BASF and Kansai Paint taking steps to strengthen their positions in Turkey.
Turkey’s strong position in the manufacture of white goods and position for
export markets provide good opportunities in the powder coatings sector. In
addition to serving approximately 11 million households in Turkey, strong
growth in Western European export markets—particularly France and the
UK—provides additional support for the sector.
The marine paint market continues to flourish as Turkey’s ship-, boat- and
yacht-building activity continues to grow. Turkey has been gaining ground in
the construction of megayachts, while the ship repair aspect has been growing
because of Turkey’s gateway position to the Middle East.
