Michelman has invested resources and
capital to strengthen its ColorCoat
line of water-based color coatings. The
company has dedicated specific lab and
manufacturing capacity at its headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA to color
matching capabilities, development and
manufacturing of ColorCoat. It is used in
applications including corrugated packaging for produce and other perishables,
as well as POP and PDQ retail displays.
ColorCoat can be matched to GCMI and
Pantone standards as well as non-stan-dard colors. It is also available in gold,
silver and bronze in both gloss or matte
finish. Michelman’s use of computerized
and visual color matching techniques ensures a high level of matching accuracy.
ColorCoat can be applied using rod,
blade or flexo techniques. It withstands
the corrugation process, is print receptive,
repulpable, and cold set glue able. Most
orders can be formulated to the customer’s exact specification and shipped within 24 hours of order receipt.
MPM Opens Automotive
Glazing Coating Facility in
Momentive Performance Materials
(MPM) has announced the opening of its
new automotive glazing coating facility
in Leverkusen, Germany. The first of its
kind, the new facility will enable original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to test
Momentive’s coating materials in an industrial scale setting. Customers will also
be able to coat production-sized automobile parts in realistic climatic conditions,
providing a preview of mass production.
Additionally, the innovative dual technol-
ogies offering of both thermal and UV-
cure capacities will provide customers the
opportunity to scale up from test speci-
men-size to production-sized prototype
testing. “For more than 20 years, MPM’s
products have been the industry standard
in developing coatings for automotive
plastic glazing. The opening of the new
facility in Leverkusen provides customers
with a state-of-the-art environment to
achieve their production and technology
goals,” said Sam Conzone, vice president,
Coatings. “It also illustrates our growing
commitment to the industry as we extend
our capabilities and offerings.”
Showa Denko Opens Ethyl
Acetate Plant
Showa Denko has begun commercial operation of its new ethyl acetate plant at
Oita Complex using its proprietary production process technology. A ceremony
was recently held at the complex to celebrate the completion of the new plant.
Ethyl acetate is an organic solvent
used in wide-ranging applications, including printing ink, paint, and adhesives for electronic devices. Its business
environment continues to be severe due
to the rise in raw material/fuel costs and
the increase in imports. SDK therefore
decided last year to change the production process by adopting a highly efficient
proprietary technology, and started constructing a new plant.
The conventional process was a two-stage process in which acetaldehyde, synthesized from ethylene, is converted into
ethyl acetate. In the new process technology adopted this time, however, acetic
acid is directly added to ethylene, enabling efficient production of high-qual-ity ethyl acetate. While the technology is
already being used at our production site
in Indonesia, this is the first time that the
technology is commercially used in Japan.
