Axalta Coating Systems has intro- duced a new generation of wa- terborne tints for the automotive
market in China, aimed at offering car-makers and body shops a more sustainable way to meet consumer preference for
stronger, brighter, more vivid colors.
The first to feature a high chroma
red, the new waterborne tints represent
a breakthrough in aesthetics and sustainability, designed to provide the auto
industry with a way to create stunning
colors with environmentally responsible
waterborne coatings.
“Axalta’s new waterborne high chroma
reds are brighter, bolder and environmentally responsible at the same time. I am
confident that Chinese OEM facilities and
body shops and, importantly, China’s consumers, are ready to embrace our dynamic
and energetic new waterborne tints for
their automobiles, and in turn contribute
to a brighter and more sustainable future,”
said Jay Kaiser, Product and Technology
Director, Asia Pacific at Axalta.
To help customers achieve an accurate color match, Axalta has also created advanced color tools, such as the
AcquirePlus EFX colorimeter. This digital
color-matching tool for auto body shops
and refinishers is the perfect companion
to Axalta’s leading waterborne refinish
product brands, Spies Hecker Permahyd
Hi-TEC and Cromax Pro.
Axalta companies have been doing
business in China since 1984. This wealth
of institutional knowledge has helped
Axalta maintain its leadership role for de-
veloping cutting edge coating products. In
addition to the recently-opened Jiading wa-
terborne coatings facility, Axalta operates
an adjacent plant in Jiading and a plant
in Changchun, six powder coating opera-
tions in collaboration with a joint venture
partner, four refinish training centers and,
in Shanghai, a Global Color Lab and Asia
Pacific Innovation Center to support R&D
and its Asia Pacific regional and China
headquarters. Axalta’s multiple resources
in China work together to support the sus-
tained, long-term growth of China’s auto-
motive, commercial vehicle and industrial
sectors that use Axalta coatings.
PPG Debuts
SPECTRACRON SEP
Wet-on-Wet Primer for
Heavy-Duty Equipment
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business has introduced SPECTRACRON
SEP primer, a fast-drying, two-component (2K), wet-on-wet epoxy primer that
is designed to help heavy-duty original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) increase production throughput without
sacrificing corrosion resistance.
Scott Laney, PPG product manager,
liquid coatings, said PPG developed
Spectracron SEP primer to meet OEM de-
mands for primers with faster flash times.
“Before the introduction of this product,
typical application times for primer and
coating on a pretreated metal substrate
were 30 minutes, with state-of-the-indus-
try wet-on-wet flash times of five to eight
minutes,” he explained. “By reducing
flash times to two minutes, Spectracron
SEP primer is enabling OEMs to increase
production rates without sacrificing qual-
ity while achieving cost savings in other
areas of their operation.”
Spectracron SEP primer can be used
on production lines with 5-, 10- and
30-minute flash times, enabling OEMs to
simplify stocking and reduce inventory.
The product also provides higher-gloss
finishes with no solvent-pop or soak-in is-
sues, as well as improved corrosion resis-
tance, cycle times, masking performance
and handling. Operational benefits in-
clude low volatile organic compound
(VOC) emissions, easier application, re-
duced fluid flows and flush solvents, and
lower paint costs.
Spectracron SEP primer is engineered
for use in all areas of the heavy-duty
equipment market and is well-suit-
ed for transportation and general
finishing as well as propane, water and
storage tanks. It is available in green
and buff colors, and it may be formu-
lated in other colors for specific appli-
cations or customers.
