New Fast-Drying Enamel
From Sherwin-Williams
Drives Efficiency in Water-
Reducible Formula
Sherwin- Williams introduced KEM AQUA
8710 Water Reducible Enamel for general
metal applications. The new coating dries
to touch within 30 minutes and dries to
handle within 75 minutes, allowing manufacturers to increase throughput.
KEM AQUA 8710 also meets high
consistency and aesthetic finishing standards with one-coat protection for the
most demanding applications, and can
be applied over Sherwin-Williams primers for improved finish performance, the
company reported. Finishers can also
apply the product in a variety of spray
methods, including conventional, airless,
air assisted airless spray, high volume low
pressure (HVLP) or dipping.
A water reducible coating that decreases the need for solvents, KEM
AQUA 8710 offers low VOC levels less
than 2.8 pounds per gallon, allowing
manufacturers to meet strict environmental standards without sacrificing the
finishing quality and durability required.
It is available in a broad range of colors
and glosses, offering manufacturers the
flexibility to meet specific finishing needs.
“KEM AQUA 8710 will help our
customers respond quickly to their cus-
tomers’ needs and wants,” said David
Calabra, director product management
Metal & Plastics, Sherwin-Williams.
“This product was field-tested at six dif-
ferent customer sites, and each came back
with results that met or exceeded their
expectations. KEM AQUA® 8710 can
improve the efficiency of a finishing line,
meet local environmental regulations,
and provide a good-looking, long-lasting
finished product.”
KEM AQUA 8710 is available now
from all 73 Sherwin-Williams Product
Finishes facilities located throughout
North America.
OLYMPIC Brand by PPG
Introduces ASSURE Interior
and Exterior Paint at
LOWE’S Stores
OLYMPIC Paint and Stain launched
Olympic ASSURE interior and exterior
paint-and-primer in one, available exclu-
sively at LOWE’S stores in the U.S.
Olympic Assure paint simplifies the
painting process with easy-flow application and a hardworking finish, according
to Lia Gancas, senior manager, Olympic
brand of PPG Architectural Coatings.
Backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal,
Olympic Assure paint is available in a variety of sheens and includes formulas for
interior and exterior applications.
“We understand that homeowners
want and need a paint that is easy to use
and that has beautiful, lasting results,”
Gancas said. “Olympic Assure paint ap-
plies with ease and delivers a highly dura-
ble finish that stands up to the daily wear
and tear that happens on the inside and
outside of a busy home.”
The Olympic Assure brand offers a
paint-and-primer product at a value –
starting at less than $20 per gallon. It is
available in more than 1,200 colors in
the Olympic paint palette and backed by
a lifetime warranty. The Olympic Assure
brand will replace the Olympic ICON
brand over the coming months, deliver-
ing the same high quality and value that
consumers have come to expect from the
Olympic brand.
The Olympic brand is a line of PPG
Architectural Coatings, a business of
PPG Industries.
PPG Introduces ULTRAX
Metal Conditioner
257 for Multi-Metal
Auto Components
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business
has introduced ULTRAX metal conditioner
257, a near-neutral descaler solution that
removes weld scale, light oxide and other
impurities from steel surfaces and preconditions galvanized steel, white metal, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals prior
to pretreatment with zinc-phosphate and
other thin-film pretreatments.
ULTRAX metal conditioner 257 is a
significant technical breakthrough be-
cause it enables descaling and surface
activation of welds while pre-condition-
ing metal surfaces of parts comprised of
mixed-metal substrates through a single
descaling system. Multi-metal compo-
nents are increasingly in demand among
automakers because their light-
er weight promotes greater fuel
efficiency and improved corro-
sion resistance.
With conventional metal-condition-ing technologies, there is no simple way
for manufacturers to clean and precondition welded parts made with steel alloys, galvanized steel and non-ferrous
metals prior to pretreatment. ULTRAX
metal conditioner 257 eliminates that
problem by facilitating uniform application of zinc phosphate, which creates
a corrosion-resistant barrier on mixed-metal frames, engine cradles, control
arms, linkages and other underbody
parts exposed to moisture, road salt,
gravel and other hazards.
Randy Brent, PPG director, pretreatment and engineered products, said
there are a number of operational and
environmental benefits associated with
ULTRAX metal conditioner 257’s near-neutral pH composition.
“In addition to enabling a single
descaling operation, ULTRAX metal
conditioner 257 emits no fumes, slows
iron-build in the descale tank for lon-
ger bath life, and produces less sludge
than standard acid-pickle descaling sys-
tems,” he explained. “The result is less
waste, lower disposal costs and a safer
operating environment.”
Performance benefits associated with
ULTRAX metal conditioner 257 include
a dense, uniform phosphate coating on
metal parts as well as improved phos-
phate coverage on and around welded
seams and other zones affected by heat
during welding and manufacturing, even
after significant bath aging.
PPG offers a comprehensive array
