BASF has launched two new prod- ucts to help customers overcome the typical challenges of water-based coatings systems, and meet growing demand for waterborne and low VOC
solutions. The new products, an acrylic
dispersion and hydrophilically-modified
polyisocyanate for water-based 1K and
2K systems respectively help improve appearance, simplify handling and broaden
formulation latitudes.
Joncryl 8310 is a new high performance hydroxyl-functional acrylic dispersion with excellent appearance on a
range of wood substrates. Joncryl 8310
ensures good hardness in 1K systems
which can be further enhanced via crosslinking with isocyanates. Its excellent dry
film clarity helps improve the appearance
of wood grains and is suitable for both
clear and pigmented coatings.
The innovative crosslinker, Basonat
HW2100, is ideal for water-dilutable
coating solutions, particularly for wood,
industrial and automotive coatings.
With low VOC, non-yellowing, good
light fastness and excellent chemical
resistance, Basonat HW2100 has a balanced profile regarding resistance, re-activity and compatibility with primary
and secondary dispersions.
Evonik Brings Structure to
Coatings
Evonik now enables users to achieve a
surface with a stone look with a wrinkle
coating based on VESTAMELT, a polyamide 12 (PA 12) copolyamide coating
additive from Evonik.
Be it with a stone or ceramic finish, in
sand yellow or natural gray, Evonik’s PA
12 VESTAMELT powder transforms surfaces into decorative or functional structured elements, the company noted.
The coating additive can be integrat-
ed into hot- and cold-curing coatings in
solvent-based as well as aqueous systems.
Surfaces treated with coatings based on
VESTAMELT or VESTOSINT have high
flexural strength and elasticity and ex-
cellent abrasion resistance; they are also
less susceptible to soiling and easier to
clean. The powder particles have a shock-
absorbing effect and protect the surface
from cracking.
The average particle size of
VESTAMELT and VESTOSINT additives is between 5 and 60 micrometers.
To achieve unique surface structures, a
combination of different powder particles can be used in a single application.
This means that there are virtually no
design limitations on structured surfaces
based on PA 12 powder coating additives from Evonik.
Graco Offers Tough Tek T
Portable Stucco Pump
Graco Inc. recently introduced the
ToughTek Portable Stucco Pump for
stucco and EIFS (Exterior Insulation and
Finish System) materials, the newest addition to Graco’s Tough Tek product line.
Compact and portable, Tough Tek Pumps
use piston pump technology to deliver
abrasive materials with a smooth, steady
flow.
For EIFS applications, the ToughTek
S340e Stucco Pump handles air/water-re-sistive barrier materials, EIFS base coats
and finish coats. For stucco applications,
the unit handles scratch coats, brown
coats and finish coats.
The Tough Tek Stucco Pump’s compact
design and small footprint make it easy
to spray in tight areas. It is easy to set up,
easy to use and requires minimal maintenance. Its variable speed controls allow
contractors to dial in the exact flow rate
needed, from low to high-volume output.
Ashland Launches Aroset
PS 6449 Adhesive
Ashland Inc. has launched Aroset PS
6449, a solution-based acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) that delivers superior optical clarity to electronics
applications, according to the company.
Aroset PS 6449 adhesive is acid free and
thus reduces the likelihood of future corrosion. The product also demonstrates a
good balance of adhesion and cohesion,
and good temperature resistance.
Aroset PS 6449 adhesive can be used
in bonding multiple layers together in
electronics applications, where optical
clarity, durability, weatherability performance are required.
Aroset 2570 is an emulsion acrylic
PSA for applications such as masking,
graphics, and resealable packaging that
require removable adhesives.
Ross Introduces New
Double Planetary Mixer
The Ross Double Planetary Mixer is ideal
for single-pot mixing and deaeration of
viscous formulations such as thick pastes,
putties, gels and other semi-solid products. Equipped with the patented “HV”
(High Viscosity) blades, the Double
Planetary Mixer can process highly filled
and high density applications up to 6 million centipoise in viscosity.
Available is a Ross Model DPM-200
with a working capacity of 50 to 200 gallons. This heavy-duty mixer features a
specially fabricated high-precision gearbox enabling very quiet operation as well
as reduced wear and tear. For easy clean-up, the stainless steel wetted surfaces are
150-grit finish and electropolished.
Driven by a 75HP explosion-proof
inverter-duty motor, the planetary HV
blades orbit the vessel at 7 to 30 rpm
while rotating on their own axis between
10 and 40 rpm. A detachable sidewall
scraper arm is supplied for sticky appli-
cations. A dual-post hydraulic lift with
safety locking mechanism raises/lowers
the agitators from/to the mixing position.
The mixer’s change can design allows
the use of multiple vessels: two 200-gal-
lon mix cans supplied with the DPM-200
include a 50-psig dual-zone spiral baffled
jacket, glass wool insulation and stainless
steel sheathing. CW
