Court Decision Protects
BASF’s Intellectual Property
The Australian High Court recently announced its decision to uphold findings
that SNF has infringed BASF’s Rheomax
ETD patents and that those patents are
valid. The decision marks the end of proceedings in Australia, which commenced
in 2008.
Steffen Kudis, head of BASF’s Global
Water, Oilfield and Mining Solutions busi-
nesses, said, “BASF is committed to pro-
viding customers with innovative, effective
technologies and solutions. To achieve
this, BASF must be able to protect its in-
vestment in years of research and develop-
ment and intellectual property rights.”
The Rheomax ETD Technology is
part of BASF’s innovative solutions for
Tailings Management. ETD (Enhanced
Tailings Disposal) is a method of tailings
management in which novel technology
is used to change and control the struc-
tural and drainage properties of mineral
processing residues. CW
