RPM Acquires South African
Spray Paint Manufacturer
RPM International’s Rust-Oleum
Group has acquired Spraymate Group,
the producer of South Africa’s leading
aerosol paint brand. Based outside of
Johannesburg, South Africa, Spraymate
has annual net sales of approximately $5
million. Terms of the transaction, which
is expected to be accretive to earnings
within one year, were not disclosed.
The majority of Spraymate’s sales are
in the decorative/retail market through
both big box stores and independent
dealers under the Spraymate brand,
while the company also provides marking paints to the mining industry under
the Mine Mate brand.
“This acquisition gives Rust-Oleum,
which has been building its presence in
South Africa by importing products,
Rust-Oleum’s product innovation, mar-
keting capabilities and category man-
agement,” stated Frank C. Sullivan,
RPM chairman and chief executive offi-
cer. “RPM looks forward to welcoming
the Spraymate management team, led
by managing director Warren Howell,
son of one of the firm’s founders, to the
RPM family of businesses.”
Sika Acquires Axson
Technologies
Sika has agreed to acquire Axson
Technologies. The intended transaction
was initially announced in January 2015.
With annual sales of CHF 75 million and
365 employees, Axson Technologies is a
leader in the field of epoxy and polyure-
thane polymer formulations for design,
prototyping and tooling, structural ad-
hesives, composite materials and encap-
sulation products for the automotive,
aeronautical, nautical, renew-
able energy, sports and leisure
and construction markets. This
acquisition, will significantly
broaden Sika’s product range in the glob-
al Tooling and Composites business.
Axson Technologies is a world leader
in high-performance resin formulation in
three main application areas: Tooling &
Prototyping, Composites and Electrical/
Electronics. With six production sites in
the U.S., Mexico, France, Slovakia, China
and Japan and a broad distribution net-
work, it successfully produces and mar-
kets its innovative products worldwide.
By acquiring Axson Technologies, Sika
is increasing its product offering and expertise in the Tooling and Composites
business. The main technologies used are
polyurethane and epoxy – also two of
Sika’s core technologies – which will further complement and advance the future
product offerings.
