AkzoNobel to Invest in
Performance Coatings Activities in Vietnam
AkzoNobel has announced plans to invest in its Performance Coatings business in Vietnam. As well as
doubling capacity at its powder coatings
facility in Dong Nai, the company also intends to open a new office for Performance
Coatings in Ho Chi Minh City.
The new production line in Dong Nai
will be ready in November and will be
supported by a 20 percent increase in
workforce. In addition to serving the local market, the expanded plant will also
supply customers across Southeast Asia,
India, Australia and New Zealand.
“Vietnam has proven to be strate-
gic market for AkzoNobel in Southeast
Asia and we are strongly committed
to expanding our position,” said Alan
Alex, business manager for AkzoNobel’s
Powder Coatings business in Southern
Asia. “With focused investment, we aim
to sustain our high double-digit growth
in the domestic market in Vietnam, as
well as Southern Asia overall.”
Commenting on the investment,
Conrad Keijzer, AkzoNobel’s Executive
Committee member responsible for
Performance Coatings, added: “Vietnam
is strongly emerging as a manufacturing
base in Asia, which continues to be an at-
tractive growth market. These investments
ensure that we are well positioned to meet
customer demand going forward.”
AkzoNobel is the largest paints and
coatings company in Vietnam, with four
manufacturing locations producing both
decorative paints and performance coat-
ings, and employing more than 800 people.
PPG Completes Colorful
Communities Project in
Cieszyn, Poland
PPG Industries has announced the
completion of a Colorful Communities
charitable-giving project near its paint-
manufacturing plant in Cieszyn, Poland.
Mayor Ryszard Macura of Cieszyn and
Waldemar Gołebiewski, director of the
PPG plant, recently reopened a children’s
playground in the Park pod Wałka after
renovation, expansion and painting was
completed as part of PPG’s global Colorful
Communities initiative. Launched earlier
this year, the program expands PPG’s cur-
rent investment in communities by com-
mitting $10 million over 10 years.
The playground, which was in need of
restoration, is an important community
resource offering residents of Cieszyn
and the surrounding area a place where
families can spend time outdoors. PPG
donated more than $14,000, along with
DEKORAL® brand paints, to help reno-
vate and expand the playground with a
new swing set, carousel and safety mats.
Nearly 30 volunteers, including employ-
ees from the PPG Polifarb Cieszyn facility
and their families, used the Dekoral prod-
ucts to restore playground equipment
and brighten the area.
“PPG is committed to supporting the
communities where it has a presence and
beautifying important community resourc-
es near our facilities,” Gołebiewski said.
“Safety is also a priority of our company,
and we decided to extend the project by
constructing features that also help in-
crease the safety of the playground.”
Launched in May, PPG’s Colorful
Communities initiative aims to enhance,
protect and beautify neighborhoods
where the company operates. Together
with community partners and PPG em-
ployee volunteers, the program supports
projects that transform community assets
using donated PPG paint and coatings
products. Examples of other Colorful
Communities projects have included a
school classroom makeover, conservation
of a historical monument in a city center,
and painting over graffiti in important
community spaces.
The Colorful Communities program
is currently engaged with a number of
communities and expects to complete
more than 14 projects in 2015 in North
America, South America, Europe and
Asia. PPG has completed four other
Colorful Communities projects to date:
one in the United States, one in Italy, one
in South Korea and one in China. CW
