Sherwin-Williams Product Finishes recently launched Sher-Wood SB Stain
System, a next-generation family of spray
and wipe stains. Offering fast, repeatable
color matching with tight tolerances, the
new system ensures batch-to-batch consistency and provides excellent clarity,
according to the company. An enhanced
anti-settling feature boosts the stain’s stability and color dispersion and increases
its workability. Sher-Wood SB Stains are
available in a full range of colors and require fewer steps to achieve darker colors.
The Sher-Wood SB Stain System will
be the first product offering in Sherwin-Williams’ new Aurora Color System, an
intuitive stainware program that features
an expanded formula library reflecting
current trends. Aurora allows customers to quickly produce their own custom
stains and share those formulas across
their manufacturing sites. It provides fast
color matches and allows customers to
create and share custom stain formulas
across multiple devices including PCs,
MACs and iPads.
Aurora also helps customers track
inventory, calculate costs and access
up-to-the-minute environmental data
(such as VOC and HAPs reports) on
both single and multi-step (dye, wipe
and clear coat) formulas. Customer
data is automatically backed up and updated as new products are introduced.
Customers can quickly learn how to use
Aurora through Web demos and personal training from Sherwin-Williams
technical representatives.
“The Sher-Wood SB Stain System,
coupled with the Aurora Color System,
makes it easy for manufacturers of
kitchen cabinets, furniture and wood
and composite building products to
achieve consistent colors through repeatable formulas,” said Laura Kelleher,
vice president marketing. “We will continue to add to the Aurora system over
the coming months to include our full
range of products.”
Jotun Unveils Steelmaster
1200WF PFP Coating for
Infrastructure Buildings
Jotun has globally launched Steelmaster
1200WF, a highly efficient intumescent
coating providing up to 180 minutes
protection against cellulosic fire for infrastructure buildings. As the latest contribution to Jotun’s Steelmaster range,
Steelmaster 1200WF is developed to
meet the challenging demands for passive
fire protection (PFP), the company said.
Engineered to protect structural steel of
public spaces, including airports, hotels,
train stations, school buildings, stadiums and malls, this thin-film, waterborne
product allows more surface area to be
covered with less paint, thus reducing application time and cost.
According to Jotun’s product manager
Barbara Logan, Steelmaster 1200WF
represents a milestone for the company.
“Our objective was to create a product
that provides longer protection against
fire for buildings such as airports, shop-
ping malls, offices and warehouses, and
help our customers save time and reduce
both project costs and environmental im-
pact,” she said. “Due to extensive develop-
ment, testing and verification, Steelmaster
1200WF achieved excellent results with
up to 180 minutes fire protection.”
Steelmaster 1200WF completes
Jotun’s range of PFP products, enabling
the company to strengthen its position
within thin film PFP market.
Logan noted that independent bench-
mark testing confirms that Steelmaster
1200WF offers the industry’s best fire
protection for columns, beams and circu-
lar and rectangular hollows, worldwide.
Earlier this year, Steelmaster 1200WF
passed all relevant tests and approvals
by Certifire, an independent third party
certification scheme internationally rec-
ognized for ensuring the quality, per-
formance, durability and traceability of
fire protection products. As a long-term
member of the Association for Specialist
Fire Protection (ASFP), who represents
and supports the activity of the fire indus-
try in relation to all forms of ‘built-in’ fire
protection, Jotun has extensive experience
in PFP coatings. Jotun is also active in the
U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a
non-profit organization committed to a
sustainable future. Steelmaster 1200WF
product is also compatible with a range
of Jotun primers and topcoats.
“Our goal is not only to provide the
market with superior individual products, but offer comprehensive solutions
that not only ensure excellent fire protection,” said Logan. “We see ourselves partnering with customers to reduce projects
costs and remain in compliance with
increasingly strict environmental regulations and standards.”
AkzoNobel Offers Van
Gogh-Inspired Paint Line
Color experts from AkzoNobel and
Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum have
developed a new range of colors inspired
by ten of Vincent Van Gogh’s best-loved
works. The launch of the paint range
builds on AkzoNobel’s sponsorship of the
museum’s restoration workshop, where
some of the artist’s treasured paintings
are being preserved.
“This marvelous paint range is an ex-
ample of how the partnership between
the Van Gogh Museum and AkzoNobel
can be mutually beneficial,” said Axel
Rüger, director of the Van Gogh Museum.
“We are very proud of the new palette,
which builds on the support AkzoNobel
is providing for our restoration work-
shop. The color range is also evidence
that Van Gogh’s art is still a daily inspira-
tion, which will soon be available to help
make people’s homes more beautiful.”
The ten new colors will be available in
the Netherlands as of November 15 from
Sikkens outlets and will then be gradu-
ally rolled out to other countries. The
full palette of colors features: Sun Yellow,
