safety and operational excellence. Kenco was honored for
going 14 years (1995 to 2009) with no recordable distribution incidents or regulatory citations at its Live Oak/Orange,

; A breath of fresh air. Crowley Maritime Corp. has
received the Clean Air Award for its efforts to reduce carbon
emissions at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The
award was presented by representatives of the ports and
local government officials during the third annual San
Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan Air Quality luncheon,
held in Long Beach.
; Winning team. YRC Worldwide reports that five drivers
from its member companies captured awards at the
National Truck Driving Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
The drivers are Bruce Quaal of YRC, Will Chrvala of New
Penn, Rich Seigle of YRC, Andy Smith of YRC, and John Van
Buren of Reddaway. More than 400 drivers competed in
the “Superbowl of Safety” event, which was sponsored by
the American Trucking Associations.
; Exel-ent. Exel Transportation has been named
Intermodal Carrier of the Year by Georgia-Pacific. The award
was given in recognition of Exel’s on-time delivery, shipping
accuracy, safety, and compliance record.
; Safety first. The North Carolina Trucking Association has
presented Sam Faucette of Old Dominion Freight Line with
its Safety Director of the Year Award. Faucette, who joined
Old Dominion in 2002, currently serves as the carrier’s
director of safety compliance, training, and recruiting.
; Nittany notice. Joe Gallick, senior vice president at Penske
Logistics, has received Penn State’s 2010 Robert D. Pashek
Award for his contributions to the logistics and transportation
profession. The award is named for Robert Pashek, an associate dean emeritus who pioneered the university’s logistics
studies program. Gallick has been a member of the Penn
State Center for Supply Chain Research since 2000.
; Top driver. Lowell Lee, a driver for Ryder System, was
named the top driver at Rite Aid’s 7th Annual Driver Skills
Challenge National Championship. Ryder provides third-party logistics services for Rite Aid.
