; Buckle up. Fastenal, the nation’s largest distributor of industrial fasteners, is doubling the size of its automated goods-to-person miniload order picking system at its Indianapolis distribution center. The company has contracted with TGW Systems,
the picking system’s supplier, to add 13 cranes as well as tote
and carton conveyors. The addition will increase the automated system’s capacity to over 250,000 tote locations.
; Raising the steaks. Retrotech has integrated a new automated box handling and shipping system into the operations
of Cargill Meat Solutions’ beef processing plant in Schuyler,
Neb. The system buffers boxes between the case sealers and
shipping, with 53,000 storage locations. It then delivers them
in sequence to shipping.
; Cola collaboration. PepsiCo has awarded Jacobson
Companies an operating contract to run a brand new
450,000-square-foot distribution center in Tacoma, Wash.
Jacobson now manages five DCs for PepsiCo, covering 2. 5
million square feet of distribution space.
; On target. Aries Global Logistics, a U.S.-based freight forwarding and customs brokerage firm, has contracted with
on-demand software developer Four Soft to implement its
global freight forwarding application, 4S eTrans.
; Raising the exercise bar. FlagHouse, a global distributor of
equipment for physical education and special needs, has selected
Smart Software’s SmartForecasts and SmartCollaborator to optimize its inventories and streamline its supply chain processes.
; Cheers. LLoveland Distributing
Co. is implementing advanced
distribution planning software
from Paragon Software Systems.
Loveland will use the software to optimize delivery routing of
alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to 3,000 retailers.
; Fortified. Weber Distribution has signed an agreement
with The Vitamin Shoppe to warehouse and distribute products to approximately 100 Vitamin Shoppe stores in the
Western United States, including Hawaii. The distribution will
be handled from Weber’s food-grade facility in Fontana, Calif.
; Better beer runs. Two Anheuser-Busch InBev distributors
have implemented the HighJump RouteCenter solution from
HighJump Software. Wisconsin Distributors and Erie
Beverage are using the route accounting system to manage
their growing direct store delivery operations.
; Knock out. Ringside, a distributor of equipment, gear, and
apparel for fighting sports (boxing, martial arts, and
wrestling), has chosen the Snapfulfil on-demand warehouse
management solution from U.K.-based Synergy Logistics.
Ringside is Synergy’s first U.S. customer.
; Leaders of the pack. Combi Packaging Systems and
QComp Technologies are partnering to offer robotic case
packing technology to the marketplace. The partnership will
build on Combi’s expertise in case and tray packing machines
and QComp’s strength in high-speed robot picking systems.
