In from the cold: Crown Equipment Corp. has
unveiled the Crown SR 5000 Series moving-mast reach truck for cold-storage environments.
The Crown SR 5000 features a cold store cabin
that allows operators to remain productive in
harsh environments where temperatures can
drop as low as minus 20F. The truck is suited for
food and beverage applications, where lift
heights up to 450 inches are often required.
The Crown SR 5000 is designed to lessen the
impact of the cold conditions and ensure optimum reach truck performance, energy savings,
and minimal maintenance in cold temperature
environments. The truck’s cold store cabin is
completely integrated into the truck to provide
optimal comfort and performance. It considers
visibility from every angle, which is important in
cold storage applications, where pedestrians and
other operators may not see or hear as well as
they otherwise might. Operators can easily view
the fork tips and load through a clear visibility
mast. Quick defrosting is achieved through heated windows and electric wipers with intermittent,
low, and high settings. Airtight windows combined with electronically controlled twin heaters
and fans keep the cabin interior warm and comfortable. An adjustable steering column and
ergonomically designed seat with an integrated
armrest bolster operator comfort while driving.
The Crown SR 5000 is available with a range
of application-specific options, including three
types of hydraulic controls (multi-task, fingertip,
and dual-lever), an intercom system, a heated
seat, work lights, and a camera system. (Crown

Going the distance: LXE has introduced the
Marathon field computer, a mobile computer that’s
smaller than a laptop but features a bigger screen
and more computing power than a PDA. The new
device is designed to offer multiple data-capture
and connectivity options for mobile workers.
The Marathon computer fills a void for a fully
rugged, PC-based experience with a balance of
screen size and ergonomics. The device, which
weighs less than a kilogram, is powered by an Intel
Atom processor that runs the full Windows 7 or
Windows XP operating system. It combines multiple built-in data-entry options, including a 7-inch
outdoor-visible touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, an integrated fingerprint reader that doubles
as a mouse, and a high-resolution color camera.
The unit’s available desk and vehicle
SmartDock cradles allow one-handed undock-ing. Bolt-on accessories include a mag stripe
reader, 2D imager, and extended-life batteries.

The eyes have it: Dematic has introduced the Alert
Monitoring Service, a support capability for users of
automated material handling systems. The Alert
Monitoring Service provides a constant view of a user’s
material handling system, monitoring trends with an
eye toward identifying issues before they become critical. The Alert Monitoring Service provides notifications
about the status of controls, computer hardware, and
equipment. Personnel at the user site are notified by e-mail or SMS text message of impending issues and recommended actions.
Utilizing the Alert Monitoring Service allows a proactive and pre-emptive approach to the ongoing operational support of an automated material handling system. The system uses smart filters and trend monitoring to determine if an issue requires action as well as
the appropriate response.
The Alert Monitoring software utility is the constant “eyes on the system.” Dematic
manages the definition and configuration of metrics, alerts, and notifications so the
appropriate personnel automatically receive electronic alerts when a configured and
tracked condition occurs. Alert notifications will enable both Dematic and the customer’s support personnel to resolve system issues, often before operators are
aware of the condition, thus improving the operating performance of a facility.
