Insert lawyer joke here
How many lawyers does it take to oversee a
transportation and logistics operation? If your
answer to that question hasn’t changed in the
past few years, you may be in trouble. Shippers
and carriers alike now have to worry about the
Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) and
truck driver hours-of-service (HOS) regulations as well as increasing freight claims disputes and liability for highway accidents.
If you’re looking to bone up on the latest
developments, you may want to consider
attending the Transportation & Logistics
Council’s annual conference, from April
23–25 in Orlando, Fla. This annual event
always offers several presentations focused on
the complexities of transportation law, including the popular “Lawyers Explain the Law, and
Businessmen Tell It Like It Is” session. The
industry association even bills this as one way
to obtain free legal advice.
If that isn’t enticement enough, the conference offers attendees the chance to hear DC
VELOCITY’S very own Mark Solomon talk
about what’s ahead for the transportation
industry.

Will Congress finally pass legislation to fund federal transport programs over a multiyear period?
One place to get a clearer read on the political climate on Capitol Hill is at NASSTRAC’s Annual
Conference and Expo in Orlando, Fla., from April
29 through May 2.
The author of the legislation, Chairman of the
House Transportation and Infrastructure
Committee John Mica, will be giving the keynote
address at the conference. Mica will discuss his
recently introduced American Energy and
Infrastructure Jobs Act, which has been touted as
the most ambitious transportation reform bill since
Congress created the Interstate Highway System.
Additional sessions will highlight how to navigate
the increasingly complex regulatory environment,
the economic prognosis for the transportation sector in 2012, and how you can become a better
advocate for the transportation industry.
