Bar-code scanner: Intermec Inc.’s new SG20 family of handheld scanners features
the industry’s fastest two-dimensional imaging technology for omnidirectional scanning, the company says. Designed to speed up the bar-code scanning process in
retail, health care, and general countertop scanning applications, the SG20 scanners
minimize the time and effort required to read a bar code by providing more than 50
times the motion tolerance of competitive scanners.
Models are available with one-dimensional linear or two-dimensional high-per-formance imagers and either Bluetooth cordless or corded connectivity. (Intermec

SpeedCell shelving system: Holland Storage
Systems (HSS) has introduced a new shelving
system, SpeedCell, designed to make more
efficient use of lower bays in distribution center pallet racking systems, the company says.
SpeedCell is made up of individual textile
columns, each of which contains multiple
shelves, says HSS, an industrial textile producer based in Holland, Mich. The columns can
be fixed in place or hung from a track system
that allows them to slide aside to provide
access to additional shelf-filled columns.
SpeedCell is designed to work with traditional pallet racking and other shelving systems, transforming the lower bay into a fast
hand-picking area, while storing pallets or
other items above. HSS says the system can
reduce pick-and-place labor by 30 to 50 percent and increase lower-bay storage by 40 to
60 percent.
The SpeedCell column can hold a 240-
pound load. More than 20 columns can fit
into a standard 8-foot bay. (Holland Storage

Walkie pallet truck: Nissan Forklift
Corp. has added the APX advanced AC-powered walkie pallet truck to
its line of pallet trucks. Rated
at 4,000 pounds capacity, the
APX pallet truck is suitable for
manufacturing, grocery,
and general warehouse operations.
The APX’s short
truck length and narrow
width make it easy to maneuver in small warehouses or tight
settings. The truck is also very stable, the
company says. It has a robust chassis with a
rugged steel skirt that rides on four continuous contact points. This reduces load sway
when the truck is traveling fast, around corners, and on uneven floors.
The APX has an offset tiller arm, which
allows the operator to walk beside the truck.
This design feature provides better fork tip
visibility, according to the company.
Smart electronics paired with the brushless
AC-drive motor make the APX a low-maintenance option for warehouse applications. At
startup, the APX runs a self-check and alerts
the operator of any error codes. The on-board
diagnostics system provides easy troubleshooting and eliminates the need for a
separate diagnostic handset. The brushless
AC-drive motor keeps operating costs low
with fewer wear components and a simple
control harness design. (Nissan Forklift Corp.,
