rollouts
Shipment planning platform: APL Logistics has rolled out a new shipment planning
platform that automatically generates the best shipment plan against three key objectives: 1) making sure cargo arrives at the final destination on the preferred date, 2)
maximizing space and load utilization, and 3) minimizing overall transportation costs.
Called ShipmentOptimizer, this planning platform integrates a Web-based shipment planning and optimization tool with APL Logistics’ supply chain expertise and
technology applications. It first considers all possible combinations of shipment
flows, modes, routes, and cargoes and then recommends the ideal shipment plan.

Asset-tracking service: Hutchison Port
Holdings (HPH) has unveiled StellarTrak, a
Web-based on-demand service that provides
HPH’s LoadStar customers with cargo-security,
monitoring, and asset-tracking services.
StellarTrak gives LoadStar customers real-time information about their cargo and
assets. It tells customers the precise location
of their cargo and assets as well as the security and environmental status of the products
inside. Customers can also subscribe to
LoadStar’s monitoring service. (Hutchison Port

Handheld bar-code
scanner: Denso ADC’s
new AT20B handheld
bar-code scanner features
high-speed scanning, user-friendly operation, and high
durability. The company’s
Advanced Scan Plus technology gives the AT20B twice
the scanning speed of previous models.
Using the latest Denso algorithms, the
AT20B can scan poorly printed or otherwise
difficult-to-read bar codes. The device also
allows trouble-free scanning of wide bar
codes. The AT20B’s compact, lightweight,
and ergonomic shape makes it easy to hold
and aim, reducing operator fatigue. An LED
guidelight makes it easier for users to aim the
scanner, even when they’re scanning multi-level or very small bar codes.
Denso designed the AT20B to be durable. It
features IP42 dust- and water-resistant protection as well as a connector-cable locking
mechanism that prevents damage to the connector or cable. Other features of the AT20B
include easy-to-use configuration software
and an auto-sense scanning mode. A data-verification function allows verification to be
done with a single scanner, while data-editing
functions allow simple programming (ADF
scripting) for data truncating, sorting, and
converting. A command-control function
enables the scanner to be controlled by a PC
for fully automated operation. (Denso ADC,

SwingMast lift truck: The four-wheel Drexel
SwingMast lift truck models SL30, SL40, and
SL50 from Landoll Corp. have been converted
to 100-percent AC technology. Other
improvements include a new swivel seat, single joystick control, and a larger side-load
bed. These improvements increase run time
on a shift and increase operator comfort and
productivity, the company says. (Landoll
