Shrink wrapper: Standard-Knapp, a
manufacturer of packaging machinery,
has introduced the 596S Continuum
Shrink Wrapper. Standard-Knapp bills the
new machine as a “continuous motion shrink
wrapper,” saying that the wrapper uses servo
motion to adjust its speed according to product flow. It
can operate at speeds of up to 80 trays per minute.
The 596S Continuum Shrink Wrapper is designed to handle
PET, glass, and metal containers. It is suitable for applications in
the food, beverage, and household product industries, according
to the company.
Standard-Knapp says that because the 596S Continuum
Shrink Wrapper is engineered with Single Roll Lap Seal
Technology, it provides a low-maintenance alternative to shrink
wrappers with traditional mechanical seal bars. The new unit
features a PLC control system, with operator interfaces for both
the tray and shrink functions, as well as a smaller interface at the
shrink cut to assist in setup. The film is cut by a simple rotating
blade, which is controlled by a servo system.
The wrapper has a dual film reel holder that contains a spare
roll of film. This makes it easier to reload the film fast. (

Vehicle-mount computer and docking system: DAP
Technologies has released two new rugged products: a vehicle-mount computer and an “intelligent” docking system.
The V1010 vehicle-mount computer has a rugged, high-reso-lution 10-inch touchscreen display and a choice of Windows
Embedded 7 or Windows CE 6.0 operating system. Although the
V1010 draws its main power from a forklift or other industrial
vehicle, it also has its own backup battery, which can provide
continuous power for up to four hours. This backup battery
helps to minimize the downtime associated with transferring the
computer between vehicles.
DAP’s new docking system does more than simply secure a
computer to a forklift, truck, or other industrial vehicle and provide power, according to the company. The Intelligent Docking
System is also able to connect through traditional contacts or
through wireless USB to minimize failure points between the cradle and the device. The docking system accommodates both
tablets and fixed-mount computers. The quick-connect/discon-nect cradle offers customers I/O ports for peripherals like bar-code readers, document scanners, and printers.
Both the V1010 and the docking system will be available for
purchase in the fourth quarter of 2012. (DAP Technologies,
