Mid-sized electric lift trucks: Cat Lift Trucks
has introduced the next generation of its mid-sized electric, pneumatic-tire lift trucks. Trucks
in the 2EPC5000 to 2EP6500 Series have
capacities ranging from 5,000 to 6,500
pounds as well as new features that improve
the vehicles’ energy efficiency, performance
levels, and operator ergonomics, according to
the company.
The new model trucks can run up to two
shifts on one battery charge in most applications. They also feature a 10-percent increase
in energy efficiency over the previous generation. The trucks are equipped with three-phase AC technology.
These lift trucks are outfitted with sealed
wet-disc brakes, electrical components, and
connectors. They are also built with added
protection for harsh, dusty, and moist environments.
The combination of solid pneumatic tires,
full-suspension seat, and floating cabin provides a comfortable ride on rough or uneven
floors, according to Cat. The trucks also have
an adjustable operator compartment and
standard fingertip hydraulic controls. The new
lift truck model can also be equipped with an
optional enclosed cabin for further protection
in cold or wet conditions. (Cat Lift Trucks,

Lift truck management control/reporting
system: ED3 SkidWeigh Plus is a new lift
truck management control and reporting system from Integrated Visual Data Technology.
This system measures and reports productivity results in terms of vehicle utilization. The
utilization results are measured in real time
on an individual lift truck basis.
The system monitors the “operational pattern” of the lift truck in such terms as how
long it is moving loaded, how long it is moving without a load, lift time, and number of
loads being lifted. If the operational pattern is
less than the
standard set for
the facility, the
system sends a
visual warning
to the lift truck
operator. The system also has an onboard
check-weighing function.
According to the manufacturer, the ED3
SkidWeigh Plus system can improve productivity results after being installed on just one
lift truck. (Integrated Visual Data Technology

Handheld computer: Psion, a provider of mobile computing solutions, has updated its Neo light and rugged handheld computer.
The Neo now integrates ultra high-frequency (UHF) with its radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. The new RFID capabilities of Psion Neo were developed
in collaboration with CAEN RFID, a pioneer in these types of readers. The Psion
module can combine linear or circular polarized antennas. It is based on the Quark
CAEN RFID reader and offers multiregional capabilities.
The UHF model is easily mounted to the back of the Neo, allowing for faster reading of tags and enabling use in dense tag environments. (Psion, www.psion.com)
