Active wireless sensors for air freight: Logistics company Kuehne + Nagel Group
is introducing a new service that records and transmits the temperature of pharmaceutical air freight along the entire supply chain. The service is part of a package of
new tailor-made airfreight offerings for the pharmaceutical industry, called KN
PharmaChain.
Generally, security rules prohibit the active use of mobile sensors during air transport. However, Kuehne + Nagel and several airline partners have tested low-emission,
wireless sensors that can stay active during the flight so that the temperature can be
constantly measured and reported. (Kuehne + Nagel, www.kuehne-nagel.com)

Reefer temperature displays: Truckers now
have an easy way to keep track of the refrigerated loads they pull with Carrier Transicold’s
Dual-View Temperature Display. An optional
accessory, the Dual-View Temperature Display
mounts on the front corner of a refrigerated
trailer, behind the driver for easy visibility in
the mirror. The external temperature and status indicator provides a reverse image in the
rearview mirror so it appears correctly for drivers at a glance. This allows the driver to verify
the temperature inside the trailer without
having to leave the cab. Large amber LED
numerals show temperature in up to three
zones in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
As a dual-view device, the display can be
switched from reverse to normal view for yard
monitoring of parked trailers. The bright display is easy to read in direct sunlight and
automatically dims to reduce glare for
evening and night viewing. The Dual-View
system provides independent verification of
box temperatures via its own sensor or
through sensors in multi-temp applications. It
also shows refrigeration unit status – cool,
heat, defrost, or warning.
Sealed electronics protect the unit from
weather and high-pressure water spray. The
Dual-View Temperature Display is compatible
with most Carrier Transicold and competitive
trailer units. (Carrier Transicold, www.transi-cold.carrier.com)
