Voice and data cables: Optical Cable Corp.
now offers 10 gigabit multimode, fiber-optic
distribution riser cables, suitable for large
warehousing applications. These high-speed
rugged cables offer warehouse managers
high-bandwidth voice and data capabilities
previously reserved for environments such as
office settings. Faster communication increases productivity through increased use of automated material handling as well as the integration of ERP functions.
Unlike standard fiber-optic cables, these
tight-buffered cables are engineered to withstand harsh warehouse environments. Heavy
freight handling, temperature changes, and
electromagnetic interference are just a few of
the hazards these cables are built to withstand.
With a high strength-to-weight ratio and a
helically stranded core for greater mechanical
protection, OCC’s multimode, fiber-optic distribution riser cables are UL Listed in accordance
with NEC section 770.179(b) for use in vertical
runs in building riser shafts or from floor to
floor. These cables can withstand operating
temperatures as low as - 40° C (for refrigerated
warehouses) and as high as +85° C, along with
a crush resistance up to 1,800 N/cm.
As the operation’s bandwidth needs
increase, the 10-gigabit riser cables will make
it easy for plant managers to integrate future
generations of sophisticated equipment and
technologies such as video and still imaging
for functions like order and shipment verification. (Optical Cable Corp., www.occfiber.com)
Anti-static air cushion film: The new Pillow
Pak Anti-Static Air Cushion Film is the first 24-
inch-wide anti-static film that can be made on
site, according to packaging manufacturer FP
International. This protective packaging material can be made at
120 lineal feet per
minute.
The new Pillow Pak
Anti-Static Film meets
or exceeds the electrostatic discharge (ESD)
performance criteria
specified by these
three established standards: EIA-541, MIL-
PRF-81705E, and the PPP-C-795D Class 2.
The Pillow Pak Anti-Static film is durable
and tough, so it won’t lose its cushioning
integrity during shipment or through extended storage, says the manufacturer. The film
allows air to move (or transfer) between cells
to provide continuous product cushioning
and protection. The entire roll can be inflated
in two minutes. (FP International,

2D bar-code reader: Datalogic ADC’s Gryphon GM4400 bar-code reader is now
available in a Datalogic STAR 910MHz radio-frequency version. The Datalogic STAR
Cordless System provides narrow-band communication that is resistant to interference from a facility’s Wi-Fi infrastructure and is not particularly sensitive to obstacles
like concrete walls or metal shelving. It is a scalable solution, suitable for both simple point-to-point applications and point-to-multipoint installations.
The GM4400 reader is an area imager that provides omnidirectional reading of both
one- and two-dimensional bar codes, regardless of label orientation. (Datalogic
