Toronto-based freight services: Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of
transportation and logistics services, has opened a station in Toronto, its first in
Canada. The new location will handle shipments into and out of the provinces of
Ontario and Quebec, working in conjunction with the company’s Canadian partner,
Concord Transportation. The Toronto station offers a full suite of transportation and
logistics services.
This new location is the second full-service station outside of the United States
for Pilot. The first was a European station in Amsterdam. (Pilot Freight Services,

Motor-driven control conveyor: Wynright’s
Autoroll+ motor-driven roller (MDR) connects
all MDR conveyors in a specific area of a warehouse or distribution center through an ethernet network instead of hard wiring each zone
back to a programmable logic controller (PLC).
By using an ethernet connection instead of
hard wiring, Wynright has simplified the installation process. The user now only has to run
one network cable rather than hard wiring
each control card individually back to the PLC.
This feature also makes
it easier to change the
configuration of the MDR
conveyor. An area now
can be unplugged from
the ethernet connection,
moved, and then plugged
back into the network.
Furthermore, new capabilities can be easily
added by updating the firmware on the control cards.
The ethernet connection also provides
greater flexibility and control over the entire
conveyor, says Wynright. For example, the
speed and/or acceleration of every segment of
the conveyor can be changed by sending a simple command from a laptop or PC touchscreen
rather than having to remove each individual
card and manually set it with a screwdriver.
The ethernet connection allows preventative maintenance personnel to more easily see
and assess the “health” of each individual
roller. An operator can plug a laptop into the
system and instantly see what is wrong and
what needs to be corrected. (Wynright Corp.,
