Cloud-based TMS: Descartes Systems Group has released a new
version of its cloud-based transportation management suite. This
release integrates transportation management, small package
shipping, fleet routing, mobile applications, and telematics in a
single solution.
The solution helps shippers select a common carrier or fleet
using bi-directional planning. It creates an optimized fleet plan
that minimizes costs while maximizing customer service. It transmits route plans through fleet dispatching, tracking, and mobile
applications as well as telematics. The solution is able to track
delivery, driver, and vehicle performance so that users can measure whether deliveries took place as planned and that drivers
complied with operational rules.
The solution also helps with carrier compliance for small-package shipments. The transportation management suite draws
from more than 100 small-package and less-than-truckload carriers’ service guides to help companies select a carrier and manifest the shipment.
The system provides shipment visibility from tender acceptance
to proof of delivery, including electronic signature, bar code, or
picture capture. It audits shipment freight bills down to the line
and accessorial level.
Because Descartes’ Transportation Management suite is cloud-based, customers can connect to the solution via a Web browser and Internet connection. (Descartes Systems Group,
