Hand pallet truck: Crown Equipment Corp.
has introduced the Crown PTH 50S Model
scissor-lift hand pallet truck. The truck is
designed to handle skids and open-bottom
containers.
The PTH 50S functions not only as a hand
pallet truck but also as a mobile work positioner. Operators can elevate loads of 2,200
pounds up to 31. 5 inches by using the handle
to activate the hydraulic lift.
Crown’s PTH 50S features heavy-gauge
steel forks and scissor legs. The hydraulic
pump is tested to more than 1 million pump
cycles to ensure trouble-free operation and
long life. The pallet truck has a 200-degree
steering angle, which makes maneuvering in
tight areas easier. The PTH 50S features an
ergonomic handle and a control lever with
three positions (raise, neutral, and lower) that
can be operated with one finger.
The Crown PTH 50S is now available in
both North America and Latin America.

Pallet protector: United Pallet Services,
maker of the plastic pointGuard pallet protector for wooden pallets, has released a
new pallet protector designed for one-way
shipping pallets. Like the original pointGuard,
introduced last year, the new SP40S Product
Defender attaches to the end of the front and
back leaderboards.
As for what differentiates the two devices,
the original pointGuard was designed for
captive pallets that are not meant to leave
the warehouse or DC, while the Product
Defender is designed for used wooden pallets
that are being used for shipping product.
The Product Defender is thinner than its predecessor, less expensive ($5.65 for a set of
two protectors for the back and front of the
pallet), and meant to protect the product as
opposed to the pallet itself.
The Product Defender is designed to ensure
that wood chips don’t break off the end of
the pallet and damage or contaminate the
product. (United Pallet Services, www.point-guard.com)
Mobile computer: CipherLab’s new 8600 Series mobile computer performs a wide
range of automatic identification and data capture applications.
The unit is equipped with a color display, which facilitates data classification by
preferred colors. Its flexible design includes swappable keypads of 29 or 39 keys
that can be switched as the user sees fit. The 8600 weighs only 240 grams ( 8. 5
ounces), making it comfortable to use. Reader options include linear imager, laser,
2-D imager, and RFID.
The device is also extremely rugged and can withstand exposure to dirt, water
jets, and drops of 1. 8 meters ( 5. 9 feet). (CipherLab, www.cipherlab.com)
