Diesel lift truck: Cat Lift Trucks has introduced a new
15,500-pound-capacity diesel pneumatic-tire lift truck. The new
Cat DP70N diesel lift truck is 18-percent more fuel-efficient
than previous generations
of the truck and meets the
Tier 4 interim regulation
standards from the U.S.
Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA).
The heavy-duty truck
features the Perkins 854E
high-performance engine,
which delivers enough
power to perform in rugged applications, such as
moving lumber, pipe, and steel, according to the manufacturer.
The DP70N also features a fuel-saver mode, which limits the
acceleration curve of the forklift, lowering fuel consumption by
an additional 14 percent.
The lift truck is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF)
that is designed to passively burn off soot in the system as
needed during normal operation. This benefits the operators by
allowing them to work more effectively without stopping for routine maintenance. It also features a standard engine protection
system, which notifies operators when there is something wrong
with the forklift. The system automatically lowers maximum
RPMs and slows travel and hydraulic speeds when the truck is not
performing at acceptable levels, effectively reducing the potential
for damage or costly repairs.
To ensure operator comfort, the DP70N features a three-sec-tion hydraulic control valve with fingertip controls, full-suspen-sion seat, and noise- and vibration-reduction features. The lift
truck also comes with a hydrostatic steering system to help minimize operator effort and a raised floor mat for additional traction
in the operator compartment. (Cat Lift Trucks, www.cat-lift.com)
Home delivery software: Paragon Home Delivery System
(HDS) from Paragon Software Systems Inc. enables companies
to provide more accurate home delivery times while improving
fleet efficiency. The software allows companies to integrate
multichannel ordering and delivery booking with real-time route
scheduling.
Unlike most route optimization systems, which are only used
once a day when all the orders have been received, Paragon HDS
runs continuously. It routes each order while the order is actually
being placed–this means the system can offer the customer a
very narrow time window, while also optimizing route efficiency.
Paragon HDS takes each new home delivery request and
instantly generates a choice of delivery slots that fit in with the
existing route schedules. Each customer is only offered viable and
cost-effective delivery times, so that logistics operators retain full
control of the schedule. The system provides order visibility, so
customers can be given an accurate delivery time estimate. It also
continuously updates and optimizes the schedule as new orders
are entered into the system.
Paragon HDS is a configurable modular system that can also
be linked with vehicle tracking and proof-of-delivery systems
for real-time fleet and delivery management. (Paragon Software

Hybrid RFID: The hybrid RFID system from Barcoding Inc. and
AeroScout combines passive and active RFID (radio-frequency
identification) technology to create one unified visibility solution
for tracking assets.
The hybrid system consists of active RFID technology from
AeroScout, passive RFID technology from Barcoding Inc., and
AeroScout’s MobileView software application, which collects and
aggregates the data from both technologies and turns it into
actionable information.
AeroScout’s Wi-Fi–based active RFID tags transmit signals to
standard wireless access points via their own internal power
supply. The active RFID tags are used for real-time tracking of
high-value and high-impact mobile assets. The passive RFID
tags—which rely on readers to pick up their signal and to supply
power—are used for tracking a high volume of lower-cost items
that exist within an area where chokepoint/gateway detection is
sufficient. (AeroScout Industrial, www.AeroScoutIndustrial.com)
Labor management system: TZA, an engineering, technology,
and consulting company specializing in labor performance, has
extended its cloud-based Pro Track Labor Management Software
with a new module designed specifically to improve the productivity of production teams in light manufacturing, assembly, and
kitting operations.
The new Manufacturing module is designed to dynamically
build and schedule teams to minimize the need for overtime and
temporary labor. (TZA, www.tza.com)
