Warehouse execution system: Supply chain
software developer Manhattan Associates Inc.
is rolling out a warehouse execution system
(WES) embedded in the company’s warehouse management system (WMS), saying the
approach is an extension of the company’s
“Push Possible” philosophy of driving high-uti-lization, high-throughput operations in the DC.
Providing a native WES will help users to better
balance human and machine resources in fulfillment activities, the company says.
The company is also improving its support for
mobile devices such as next-generation wearables, heads-up displays, and wristbands, supporting the ingenuity and problem-solving capabilities of warehouse employees. Manhattan
says it is embracing mobile form-factor devices
in the DC and has redesigned its user interface
to be consistent across mobile and desktop
devices. With that support, smartphone-style
devices could also drive greater productivity
in a range of warehouse activities, such as
receiving, put-away, order consolidation, and
dock management, the firm says. The effort
dovetails with the trend among warehouses to
replace their aging Microsoft Corp. Windows-based handheld computers with devices that
use the Google Inc. Android operating system
(OS), according to Manhattan. (Manhattan

Parcel data management solution: VeriShip
has launched its VeriShip Data Bridge (VDB),
which allows companies that rely on parcel
carriers like UPS and FedEx to close the data
gaps between what happens to a package
before it is manifested and everything that
happens after.
Up to 25 percent of total parcel shipping
expenses consist of surcharges and accessorial fees, added on by carriers after packages
have been manifested or shipped. But because
those specific charges aren’t evident until they
appear on a carrier invoice, they often are not
accounted for when businesses calculate cost-of-goods-sold metrics.
VeriShip Data Bridge was designed to leverage the shipper’s original parcel carrier data—
including invoices and tracking and transit
logs—collected during existing parcel auditing
processes and interpreted by the VeriShip
Intelligence Platform and prepare it for other
systems a business uses, providing shippers
with a big-picture view of all their production
and shipping data.
With VeriShip Data Bridge, businesses can
schedule and automate those parcel data
imports into their preferred primary software
systems. (VeriShip, www.veriship.com)
HVLS fan and trailer stabilizer: Material handling equipment manufacturer Rite-Hite has unveiled two new products—an HVLS (high-volume, low-speed) direct-drive fan and its trailer stabilizer—both of which will be available in July of this
year. The direct-drive fan features a 1.5-horsepower motor and the same blade
design as the company’s 2-horsepower model, and does not use oil to run. Ideal
for clean environments such as pharmaceutical and food processing, the HVLS fan
is quiet and is lighter than its predecessor, saving on energy costs and installation,
the company says.
The company’s trailer stabilizer is designed with a wide base, which keeps the
trailer stable after it’s been disconnected from its cab. The hand crank allows
operators to lower the stabilizer and manually roll it away from the trailer when
not in use. The biggest benefit, the company says, is that this product requires
no tilting or tipping when attaching or detaching the stabilizer, keeping operators
and forklift drivers safe. (Rite-Hite, www.ritehite.com)
Wireless controls: Magnetek, a supplier of digital power and motion control systems for the material handling industry, has introduced its Flex EX2 wireless controls. These next-generation rugged wireless controls are ideal for use in material
handling, overhead crane, and industrial applications, according to the company.
Transmitters are available in four-, six-, eight-, and 12-button style options, while
receivers will be available in 4/6 and 8/12 styles. .
The Flex EX2 offers advanced software capabilities, including expanded frequency ranges, channel scanning schemes for anti-interference, drop detection,
and remote pairing.
The transmitters feature an improved ergonomic design with a single thumbscrew for easy access to batteries and dipswitches. (Magnetek, www.magnetek
