FORKLIFTS AND
ATTACHMENTS
Safety device: Lift-truck fork and attachment maker OE Attachments has introduced
the “Forklift Safety Device” (FLSD). Using a
patented series of sensors and cameras, the
device aims to prevent forklift-related accidents, injuries, and property damage by providing real-time monitoring and residual load
capacity via a touchscreen monitor installed
inside the forklift cab. The device informs operators whether they can safely handle a load or
not, removing any guesswork for operators,
company executives say.
The FLSD also gives auditory and visual alerts
at all mast heights and positions whenever a
safety hazard is imminent, giving the operator ample time to take corrective action. In
addition to displaying real-time residual load
capacity, the device also offers monitoring
and response to a variety of external dynamic
factors, including acceleration, speed, ground
slope, mast tilt, and load center. Its camera system enhances visibility, and video output provides vehicle-status information to the operator, the manufacturer says. (OE Attachments,

Robotic reach truck: Yale Materials
Handling Corp. has introduced what
it says is the industry’s first dual-mode
pantograph robotic reach truck. The
truck is capable of autonomously moving loads into and out of locations as
high as 30 feet as well as reaching into
double-deep storage.
The reach truck’s high-lifting capability makes it an ideal fit for distribution
centers facing a shrinking labor pool
and pressure to maximize vertical storage space to accommodate e-commerce–driven inventory growth,
the company says. The robotic
reach truck uses a combination
of sensors and 3D cameras for precision and
effectiveness at higher-level storage locations,
making it capable of exceeding the productivity
of operator-driven trucks, the manufacturer
adds. (Yale Materials Handling Corp., www.

Counterbalanced forklifts: Lift-truck maker Crown Equipment Corp. has
expanded its line of internal-combustion (IC) counterbalanced forklifts for
heavy-duty applications with the introduction of the Crown C-G Series and C-D
Series. With this expansion, the company’s pneumatic-tire IC forklift is now available with capacities of up to 20,000 pounds.
Crown’s IC forklifts are suitable for manufacturing plants, brick and lumber
yards, recycling centers, and other sites where operators need equipment with
the versatility to handle multiple tasks and the ruggedness to navigate rough
terrain and transport heavy loads. The trucks,
which are available with diesel or LPG (liquefied
petroleum gas) engines, feature industrial dual
radiators that provide separate cooling for the
powertrain in order to reduce fluid temperatures for extended reliability.
Optional accessories and attachments are
available to fit a variety of work applications.
These include rearview cameras and a variety
of cabin options to enhance driver comfort.
