Lift truck for pulp and paper industries:
Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc.
(TMHU) has unveiled new 8-Series lift trucks
specifically designed for the pulp and paper
industries. The trucks are powered by 3.7-
liter, 4-cylinder engines built by Toyota
Industries Corp.
The new lift trucks offer lift capacities of
8,000 to 15,500 pounds. Among the versions
available are a 12,000-pound standard counterweight model, a boxcar model, and a special paper-roll model. Toyota also is offering
factory-installed paper-roll clamps that can be
configured to handle multiple diameters,
weights, and types of paper.
The paper-roll special model has a shortened wheelbase, load distance, and right-angle stacking. These dimensional changes
make this model more nimble and compact,
according to TMHU. As a result, the lift truck
can maneuver in and out of tight spots on
railcars and in paper mills.
To help the truck run better in the hot and
humid environments found in paper and
pulp-processing mills, Toyota has made a
number of improvements to the lift truck’s
cooling system. Additionally, the gas engine is
20-percent more fuel-efficient than the V6
engine used in the previous model.
The lift trucks are equipped with Toyota’s
System of Active Stability, which reduces the
likelihood of lateral and longitudinal tip-overs. The trucks also have several
ergonomic improvements, including a four-way adjustable, full-suspension seat with
anti-cinch seatbelt mechanism, a
“minilever” control option with built-in
armrest, and an improved EZ-Pedal direc-tion-control option that reduces foot and
ankle strain. (Toyota Material Handling,

Self-leveling palletizing lifts: Advance Lifts
has introduced a new line of palletizing lifts.
The line includes both mechanical spring and
air spring self-leveling models as well as electric hydraulic units for more exact positioning.
All of the units include finger-protected
turntable rings over solid platforms to keep
debris from falling through into the lifting
mechanism. These turntables also have cleanout holes and optional metal tops to further
reduce debris issues.
The mechanical and air spring models have
fork truck mobility built into the lift platforms,
eliminating the need for bulky fork pockets
around the base frame. All of these palletizing
units come fully assembled so they are ready
to go to work the moment they arrive.

Warehouse control system: W&H Systems Inc. says the newest version of its
“Shiraz” warehouse control system (WCS) handles such tasks as order fulfillment,
wave management, and planning. The system orchestrates the flow of material and
information to order fulfillment technology and material handling equipment, providing real-time intelligence into warehousing processes and eliminating the need
for a full-blown warehouse management system (WMS), the company says.
The software helps users choose the most efficient routing method and manages
wave release so orders are grouped by common functionality. (W&H Systems Inc.,
