powder coating resins and Additol additives for

WACKER TO ACQUIRE AIR
PRODUCTS’ STAKE IN JV
Wacker Chemie AG has signed an
agreement to acquire full ownership
of Air Products Polymers (APP) and
Wacker Polymer Systems (WPS), its
two joint ventures with Air Products
and Chemicals, Inc. Wacker expects
that the acquisition will provide
strategic advantages to its global
construction-polymers business. The
closing of the transaction is expected
to be completed in first quarter 2008.
As part of the agreement, Wacker
retains the vinyl acetate ethylene
(VAE) activities of the joint venture,
while Air Products will receive full
ownership in the Elkton, MD and
Piedmont, SC production facilities
Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
Nuplex: Jan. 7—4-9% increase for all sol-
vent- and waterborne products, including
alkyds, acrylics, polyesters, emulsions and
amino resins in North America.
Rohm and Haas: Feb. 1—5-18% increase
for acrylate and methacrylate monomers
oligomers in the U.S. and Canada.
Sartomer: Jan. 1—$0.08/lb. increase for gla-
cial methacrylic acid, $0.11/lb. increase for
methyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate and
$0.06/lb. increase for hydroxyethyl methacry-
late and hydroxypropyl methacrylate in the U.S.
and Canada.
DISTRIBUTOR AGREEMENT
Fusion UV Systems has appointed UVio to
distribute its products in the UK/Eire and
Benelux countries.
Halox has appointed Falcon Chemical Corp. to
distribute its corrosion inhibitors in Africa
(except S. Africa), Vietnam and Taiwan.

architectural and industrial markets

AAKASH CHEMICALS AND PRITTY
PEARLESCENT SIGN AGREEMENT
Aakash Chemicals and Dye-Stuffs, Inc.
and Pritty Pearlescent Pigments
(China) have agreed to an exclusive
distribution agreement for marketing
Pritty’s range of Iridesium industrial
and Nacreium water-resistant grade
pearlescent effect pigments in the U.S.
The product offering includes several
FDA compliant products and specialty
color lines, including silver-white, interference, gold luster, iron, crystal and
antique for coatings, inks and plastic
applications. The partnership enables
Aakash Chemicals to add effect pigments to their existing organic pigment
and dye product range. Pritty now has
the ability to maintain inventory in the
two Aakash warehouses in Chicago, IL
and Charlotte, NC and further work in
collaboration with Aakash labs to
develop customer specific matches.
ROHM AND HAAS TO ACQUIRE
POLYMER DISPERSIONS DIVISION
OF OY FORCIT AB
Rohm and Haas Company has signed
an agreement to acquire the FINNDISP
division of OY Forcit AB, a Finnish
paint emulsions operation, for approximately €60 million (approximately $85
million). Based in Hanko, Finland, this
division of Forcit makes water-based
emulsions used in the manufacture of
paints and coatings, lacquers and adhesives in Northern Europe and the
Commonwealth of Independent States
(former Soviet Union). Rohm and Haas
expects to complete the transaction by
the end of the first quarter of 2008.
The acquisition brings two manufacturing sites—an existing facility in
Hanko, and a plant currently under construction near Moscow, Russia, and
expected to be completed in March 2008.
These will become a part of a network of
more than 30 plants worldwide that provide products tailored to meet local and
regional needs.
