Christian Decker named Tess Award winner
Christian Decker, director of research at the
National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS)
in France has been named the winner of the
2009 Roy W. Tess Award in coatings.
Christian Decker, director of research at
the National Center for Scientific
Research (CNRS) in Strasbourg, France
has been named the Roy W. Tess Award
winner in coatings for 2009 presented
by the American Chemical Society’s
Division of Polymeric Materials Science
and Engineering (PMSE).
Decker is recognized as one of the
world’s leading experts in the area of
radiation-induced reactions in polymeric materials. His main research
interests are in ultrafast light-induced
polymerizations, the synthesis and
characterization of UV-cured coatings
and nanocomposite materials, photo-stabilization of polymers, and laser-assisted chemical processing of polymers. He has contributed more than
300 publications, patents and book
chapters to the coatings and scientific
literature as well as given more than
300 lectures at scientific meetings.
Decker will receive the Roy W. Tess
Award on August 17, 2009 during the
238th National Meeting of the American
Chemical Society in Washington, D.C.
The award is funded by a grant to the
PMSE from Dr. and Mrs. Roy W. Tess.
The purpose of the award is to encourage interest and progress in coatings
science technology and engineering and
to recognize significant contributions to
the field. The award consists of a plaque

GLASURIT RECEIVES WORLDWIDE
APPROVAL FROM VOLVO
Automaker Volvo has now approved
Glasurit 90 Line paints for its authorized dealers and bodyshops throughout
the world. Glasurit is a BASF Coatings’
paint brand. The engineers at Volvo tested the quality of the products. In addition to the quality of the products,
Glasurit’s training network and global
presence were key factors for the recommendation. Glasurit paints are currently approved by most well-known car-makers. The approval means that
Glasurit 90 Line has now been incorporated in Volvo’s new bodyshop management system. Entitled Volvo Information
and Diagnostics for After Sales, or VIDA
for short, the system streamlines order
processing for authorized dealers and
bodyshops. When a bodyshop enters an
order, the system displays paint products
and manufacturers that have been
approved for use in refinishing work.
Now, the Glasurit premium brand is one
of these preferred partners.
GOODRICH SELECTS U.S. AIR FORCE
FOR F- 35 LANDING GEAR COATINGS
Goodrich Corporation has selected the
U.S. Air Force’s Ogden Air Logistics
Center (OO-ALC) at Hill Air Force Base,
UT, to provide specialty coatings on landing gear for the F- 35 Lightning II fighter
aircraft. The OO-ALC will apply high
velocity oxygenated fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating on Goodrich landing
gear components produced for the F- 35.
This agreement runs through May 2009
and covers requirements for five landing
gear shipsets of the F- 35.
