Sherwin-Williams patents anti-slip coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,348,061 B2
The Sherwin-Williams Company
has been granted a patent for a substrate coated with a multi-layer coating wherein the multi-layer coating
is comprised of a zinc particle containing primer applied directly to the
substrate; a second coating applied
to the zinc particle containing primer
layer, the second coating is comprised of a binder comprised of a
polyepoxide and a polyamine; a micaceous pigment selected from the
group consisting of mica and micaceous iron oxide and blends thereof;
and at least one other pigment;
wherein the micaceous pigment is
present at a level of at least 4% PVC
based on total volume solids of the
second coating, and the total PVC of
the second coating is at least 35%.
DUPONT PATENTS TITANIUM
DIOXIDE PIGMENT AND POLYMER
Patent No. U.S. 7,371,275 B2
E.I. du Pont de Nemours and
Company has received a patent for an
improved flexible polyvinyl chloride
composition that resists UV light
induced yellowing and mechanical
degradation, the polyvinyl chloride
composition having a coated titanium
dioxide white pigment in an amount
ranging from 0.5 to 15 parts by weight
per 100 part of the polyvinyl chloride,
wherein the improvement comprises
the titanium dioxide base pigment having a carbon black undertone of at least
16, having a coating of 1.2 %to 10%
weight silica and 0.5%-5% weight alumina, based on the total weight of the
coated pigment, and the coated pigment
having a UV absorption at 340 nm of at
least 0.40, a vinyl undertone of at least
0.023, a vinyl tint strength of at least 80
and an acid solubility of no greater than
12% weight based on the total weight of
the coated pigment.
ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE
NON-STICK COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,354,648 B2
Akzo Nobel Non-Stick Coatings has
received a patent for a roller for use in
a printing machine, the roller is comprised of a first coating and second coating. The first coating including fluoropolymer and fibers of electrically conductive mica, the second coating being
located above the first coating and
including fluoropolymer and platelets of
electrically conductive mica.
KANSAI PAINT PATENTS
WATER-BASED COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,357,962 B2
Kansai Paint has obtained a patent
for an automobile body-used light-col-ored water-based coating consisting of a
water dispersion prepared by water-dis-persing a block copolymer resin comprised of a block obtained by polymerizing a monomer component containing
an olefin monomer and a block obtained
by polymerizing a monomer component
containing a carboxyl group-containing
or carboxylic anhydride group-containing vinyl monomer, a hydroxyl group-containing resin, a curing agent, a
water dispersion prepared by water-dis-persing a resin particle containing in
the same particle a copolymer of an
olefin monomer and a copolymer of a
vinyl monomer or an urethane emulsion and a color pigment, the hydroxyl
group-containing resin being a polyester resin containing as essential components an alicyclic polybasic acid and
an alicyclic polyhydric alcohol, a content of the alicyclic polybasic acid and
the alicyclic polyhydric alcohol being in
the range of 20%-70% by weight based
on a total solid content of monomers
constituting the polyester resin, the
curing agent including a blocked poly-isocyanate curing agent blocked with a
pyrazole compound consisting of 3, 5-
dimethylpyrazole, a resulting coating
film having a lightness L* value in
accordance with a L*a*b* color system
as defined in JIS Z 9729 in the range of
80 or more, and showing excellent anti-chipping properties.
ROHM AND HAAS PATENTS BIOCIDES
Patent No. U.S. 7,377,968 B2
Rohm and Haas has obtained a
patent for a coating composition comprised of a microencapsulated biocide
comprised of an isothiazolone biocide or
antifouling agent as a core material
encapsulated in a wall material that is
essentially impermeable to xylene and
from which water can leach the biocide
from the wall material; free isothiazolone biocide or antifouling agent; a
film forming polymer or binder; and one
or more solvents. The concentration of
free isothiazolone biocide or antifouling
agent is from 0.25 percent, by weight of
the composition, up to a concentration
that does not reduce the glass transition temperature of the film forming
polymer by more than 20° C.
PPG PATENTS MULTI-LAYER COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,354,624 B2
PPG has obtained a patent for a
method for improving the anti-fouling
and/or self-cleaning properties of a
painted article. The article comprises a
surface having a coating layer deposited from a polymeric composition
deposited. The method is comprised of
applying a liquid composition comprised of a photocatalytic material, and
a binder comprised of a hydrophilic
ungelled essentially completely
hydrolyzed organosilicate directly to at
least a portion of the coating layer
deposited from the polymeric composition; and curing the composition
applied in the first step to provide a
coating having a dry film thickness of
no more than 200 nanometers. CW
