Zinsser introduces Smart Prime
Zinsser’s new Smart Prime interior and
exterior primer.
Zinsser has introduced Smart Prime, a
new interior/exterior primer designed to
offer the performance of an oil-based
primer in a water-based formula. Smart
Prime is formulated with a proprietary
resin system that resists rewetting to
block stains from water and other
water-soluble stains like an oil-based
primer. It also features other performance characteristics once reserved for
oil-based formulas, according to the
company, including superior flow and
leveling and deep penetration for better
sealed surfaces. Like other water-based
primers, Smart Prime seals all oil-solu-ble stains like grease, crayon, tar and
asphalt, so projects can be completed
with just one primer. An all-purpose, all-surface interior/exterior primer, it also
offers fast dry time, exterior flexibility
and soap and water clean up in a low
odor, low VOC formula.
Ideal for use on bare or painted surfaces like drywall, aluminum, vinyl,
steel, galvanized metal and PVC, Smart
Prime seals porous surfaces like cured
plaster, concrete, stucco and masonry
and binds chalky siding and trim. It
offers excellent hide and great enamel
hold-out, even over dark color topcoats,
and can be tinted for improved hiding
power and one-coat topcoat coverage. It
can be applied using brush, roller or
spray, dries to the touch in 30 minutes,
and is ready to recoat in one hour.

PRO-HIDE GOLD LOW ODOR
Pratt & Lambert has launched Pro-Hide
Gold Low Odor with zero VOCs. It is
ideal for projects in occupied commercial, institutional or residential spaces,
such as hotels, schools, apartment com-plexes and health care facilities. The
zero VOC formulation can also help control costs by minimizing disruptions in
critical areas, and it works well in newly
painted spaces that require immediate
occupancy.
In addition to its low odor and ability
to reduce environmental impact, Pro-Hide Gold Low Odor delivers benefits
including exceptional hide and durability and a long-lasting finish that can be
cleaned with soap and water. The paint
is also manufactured without silica and
contains antimicrobial properties to
inhibit the growth of microbes on the
surface of the paint film.

LOW-VOC GLOSS & SATIN TOPCOATS
Sherwin-Williams has introduced two
breathable, low-odor, waterborne
polyurethane floor topcoats containing
less than 50 g/L volatile organic compounds. GP 4408/4409 WB Polyurethane Gloss/Satin topcoats can be
used over concrete, terrazzo or existing coatings in flooring projects where
a durable gloss or satin finish is
desired. Typical applications include
light manufacturing, garages, auto
service areas and hangars. These coatings can also be tinted to unlimited
custom colors.
In 24-hour exposure tests, the
aliphatic urethanes proved chemically
resistant, showing no effect from a
wide variety of liquids such as ten percent bleach solution, 25% percent
phosphoric acid solution and cleaners
such as Saf-Kleen and Vesphene.
Other features include water
cleanup, UV stability and low odor
over their long working time. Light
foot traffic is acceptable in eight hours
(4408) and six hours (4409).
