BASF to Build Emulsion Polymers Plant in Texas
BASF recently announced plans to build a
new production plant for emulsion polymers at its integrated “Verbund” site in
Freeport, Texas. The new plant will allow
BASF to better serve the coatings, construction, adhesives, and paper industries
by expanding the network of manufacturing locations and improve the backward
integration of raw materials used in production, according to the company. The
new plant, which is expected to begin production in mid-2014, will create approximately 25 new jobs at the Freeport site.
“The new plant strengthens our po-
sition as a leading supplier of emulsions
in North America and demonstrates our
commitment to customers in the coat-
ings, construction, adhesives and paper
industries,” said Derek Fairclough, senior
vice president, dispersions and pigments,
for BASF in North America. “This in-
vestment further supports our business
growth strategy, especially in architec-
tural coatings, where we are targeting
significant growth with our range of in-
novative products and solutions.”
The plant will manufacture acrylic
emulsion polymers used for architectural
coatings, construction chemicals, adhe-
sives and the paper chemicals industry.

Dymax Oligomers and
Coatings Debuts Website
Dymax Oligomers and Coatings, formerly
Bomar Specialties, Inc., has introduced a
new website at www.dymax-oc.com. The
site helps manufacturers choose the appropriate oligomer and compatible dispensing
and curing equipment for their specific application. The focus is on education with
easy-to-find information including down-loadable literature, white papers, technology
bulletins, and product data sheets. A new,
informative glossary defines the acronyms
and often-used terms that might be unfamiliar to some users.
Visitors to the site will find enhanced resources such as conversion charts, reference
tables, and property charts, and are able to
choose an oligomer based on properties such
as adhesion, flexibility, or gloss. Dymax
O&C designs and develops custom oligomers with unique properties, and there is a
section devoted to these select developmental oligomers. The site also contains information on coatings and curing equipment.
