Grace Introduces Matting Agents
for Architectural Coatings
W. R. Grace & Co. has launched Syloid A matting agents for the architectural market to
meet consumer demand for high-performance, low-gloss paints. This is the company’s first product designed specifically
for the architectural coatings industry.
Grace designed the Syloid A Series
to provide paint formulators with more
efficient matting agents that deliver improved performance in premium interior
flat paints. These enhancements include
exceptional stain resistance, a notice-ably smoother finish, improved hiding
characteristics, and superior burnishing
resistance. The performance attributes of
Syloid A have been verified by Marschall
Labs, an independent paint consulting
and testing laboratory.
As with all Grace products, Syloid
A is supported by a global team of experienced technical support and sales
professionals to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
Charles Ross & Son Co.
Introduces CIP-Ready Ultra-
High Shear Mixer
The Ross X-Series is a CIP-ready UltraHigh Shear Mixer ideal for inline emulsification, particle size reduction and
homogenization. It features a patented
precisely-machined rotor/stator that runs
at tip speeds over 11,000 ft/min and forces product through concentric rows of
intermeshing teeth.
The combination of high fluid velocity
and close tolerances between interlocking
channels in the rotor/stator subjects the
product to intense mechanical and hydraulic shear in a single pass. Compared
to other inline mixing, milling and homogenization equipment, the X-Series is
considerably easier to clean and sanitize
in place. Based on user experiences, the
shorter cleaning time equates not only
to faster changeover procedures but also
longer intervals between cleaning cycles,
i.e. longer production runs.
CIP-ready models are driven by a
washdown-duty motor. All wetted parts
are type 316 stainless steel machined to
32 Ra finish. The mix chamber, rated for
150 psig at 250 deg F, includes tri-clamp
inlet/outlet connections and can be supplied with a heating/cooling jacket. It is
specially designed for thorough cleaning and disinfection, with no dead zones
where product can collect. For use in continuous operations, the X-Series comes
equipped with a heavy-duty bearing assembly that comprises an oil sump with
cooler and circulation pump.
Evonik Introduces TEGO RC
722 UV Cure Silicone for
Coatings
In answer to China’s market growth,
Evonik Industries has launched a new
silicone UV cure product TEGO RC 722.
TEGO RC 722 is an anchorage component for use in combination with TEGO
RC 902 and/or TEGO RC 922 to yield
a final release coating with premium release qualities, excellent anchorage and
minimal rub-off. TEGO RC 722 makes
the dosage of additional anchorage promoter surplus. TEGO RC 722 will complement Evonik’s well balanced product
portfolio of TEGO RC silicones, the
company stated.
UV curing TEGO RC silicones allow
successful in-line coating on top of the
printed substrates, without interference
with the substrate and printing. The adhesive can be applied also in-line on the
reverse side of the label, so the label is
rolled up without a liner, just like a tape.
Typical applications include linerless
thermal print labels, wrap around labels
or micro perforated decorative labels.
Ross Multi-Agitator
Planetary Mixer and
Disperser Now Available in
Larger Models
Ross has expanded its most advanced
planetary mixer line, the PDDM, to
include larger working capacities up to
750 gallons. The PDDM is a multi-agi-
tator mixer featuring two planetary stir-
rer blades and two high speed disperser
shafts. Designed for highly viscous and
highly filled applications, the hybrid plan-
etary mixer/disperser can quickly incor-
porate large amounts of dry ingredients
into thick or sticky liquid, and apply in-
tense shear to achieve a smooth and uni-
form consistency.
Available is a 300-gallon model
equipped with a total of four saw-tooth
blades that spin on high speed shafts
while revolving around the vessel, accelerating solids dispersion and particle
size reduction. Two helical planetary
stirrers rotate at lower speeds to constantly turnover batch material, ensuring that product is evenly mixed and
heated regardless of flow characteristics.
A sidewall scraper arm further enhances
material and heat transfer around the
vessel periphery.
Dow Coating Materials
Introduces Polyolefin
Dispersion Technology for
Packaging Coatings
Dow Coating Materials released
CANVERA polyolefin dispersion
technology for packaging coatings.
CANVERA polyolefin dispersions offer a robust safety profile for formulators to create new sustainable and BPA
non-intent products. The portfolio of
products consists of various grades of
polyolefin compositions to meet several can coating performance needs and
especially support the development of
BPA-non intent systems.
CANVERA Polyolefin Dispersion is
based on Dow’s patented BLUEWAVE
process technology which enables the dispersion of high molecular polymers in an
aqueous system without the addition of
surfactants or emulsifiers, which are typically used in the standard dispersion and
emulsification processes. CW
