Coatings World: What markets offer the most opportunity for growth for DAP?

DAP: For DAP, we really serve the consumer DIY market. We continue to focus on heavy volume users – painters, general contractors and heavy DIYers. They are served by Home Dept, Lowe’s and smaller hardware stores. Our strategy is to tie our caulk and sealants products together with DIYers to simplify the process. We believe that is our best formula for growth.

CW: What are the latest technologies being offered by DAP? DAP: Out core technology has been latex caulk and sealants. We continue to work to enhance the ability of water-based chemistry. We are looking to find secondary value such as improved weatherability. We continue to push hybrid chemistry. One example is Dynoflex 800 which has all the benefits of reactive chemistry and meets AAMA 803 and 808. It provides a watertight, weatherproof seal and is ideal for installing and sealing around windows, doors and other penetrations where a tough, durable seal is required and features excellent adhesion to most common building materials.

CW: What are some other key product offerings?

DAP: DAP ALEX FAST DRY Acrylic Latex Caulk Plus Silicone – specifically formulated to meet the demanding needs of professional painters and deliver outstanding paint finish results. It can be brush painted 20 minutes after application or spray-painted immediately, so the job gets finished faster. This durable, flexible caulk is resistant to cracking and dirt pick up, providing a smooth surface for excellent paint adhesion. Also, it won’t discolor or shine through paint, creating a clean finish. ALEX FAST DRY offers all-purpose versatility with adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces and is easy to apply and tool.
