Customary practice: Kewill, a developer of global trade management and logistics software, announces the latest release of Kewill ISF. This software is designed for customs brokers who are designated as the ISF (Importer Security Filing) agent for the ISF importer. This latest release allows the ISF agent to receive an EDI/XML message (such as a commercial invoice, packing list, purchase order, or ISF instructions) and then use the data to create and send the ISF to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The solution also includes the ability to create “hands-free” ISFs, where a combination of data in the EDI/XML message and business rules can be used to automatically create, validate, and send the ISF to CBP. This will improve productivity and streamline the ISF process to completion—virtually eliminating a “paper chase” to retrieve data. (Kewill, www.kewill.com)

Truck mobility solutions: Advantech has added two new terminals to its Mobile Resource Management product line. They are the VITA- 350P, which is an ARM/Xscale, Windows CE embedded, mobile data terminal, and the TREK- 305R, which is a 5.7-inch TFT vehicle-mount display panel. The combination of VITA-350P and TREK-305R provides a fleet management solution with real-time tracking, as well as an efficient dispatch navigation and vehicle data collection system, designed for fleet owners and drivers alike.

The VITA-350P, connected to an OBDII data streamer, can monitor common vehicle performance data, such as vehicle and engine speed, fuel level, brake switch status, and odometer data. It can collect data from long-haul trucks, private delivery fleets, and many other types of over-the-road vehicles. VITA-350P is equipped with Advantech’s MRM utility, an easy-to-use, flexible human-machine interface that provides functions to customize fleet management applications in a Windows XP environment and saves GPS data log files to the onboard flash.

The TREK-305R is equipped with a TFT display panel with a resistive touch-screen, and a VESA-compliant mounting kit for easy installation. VITA-350P provides GIS (Geographical Information System) information. For fleet owners, the location of all vehicles can be pinpointed on detailed maps at the back-end operation center. For drivers, the system can calculate the shortest route, saving time, fuel, and money, while ensuring they reach the proper destination. (Advantech, www.advantech.com)

Pallet builder: KUKA Robotics Corp., a manufacturer of industrial robots, offers its KR 500 570-2 PA palletizing system. The KR 500 570-2 PA is a heavy-duty robot that can handle payloads of up to 1,250 pounds and features three different palletizing algorithms for mixed and unmixed palletizing. This space-saving and cost-effective system can be tooled with a KUKA servo-controlled layer gripper that can remove entire layers from a pallet of virtually any material. The servo layer gripper motors are synchronized with the KR 500 570-2 PA to provide a time-saving solution for palletizing when mixing different product layers on the same pallet.

The unit’s user-friendly interface can communicate directly to a warehouse management system and is suitable for building rainbow or starter pallets in distribution centers or feeding a layer descrambler for a downstream case buffer. To serve and protect: Rack Sentry Cutout, a storage rack protection product, is now available in four-inch widths, making it possible to protect both the uprights and low horizontal beams of commonly used pallet racking systems. The four-inch ( 100 mm) Rack Sentry Cutout is designed to flex and absorb the impact of collisions, then resume its original shape.

The product is easily installed in seconds using straps with hook and loop attachments. No tools are needed. Direct attachment to the rack uprights prevents the collision damage to floors that results with floor-attached steel protectors.
