Shuttle craft: The Dematic Multishuttle is a
flexible automated storage and retrieval
(AS/RS) staging solution for applications that
require dynamic product sequencing to support order assembly, goods-to-the-person
order picking, and pick face replenishment.
The key attributes of the Multishuttle include
a high rate capacity, the ability to accommodate load sequencing requirements, and
adaptability to existing building layouts.
The Multishuttle system consists of multiple levels of AS/RS rack structure, carrier vehicles, buffer conveyors, and software. Each level of the rack structure includes
input/output conveyor and a carrier vehicle that travels horizontally to access loads stored in the rack structure, typically totes or
trays. An extraction device on each carrier vehicle accesses the
loads in the rack. Since there is a carrier vehicle captive in each
aisle, on each level, the system offers ultra-high throughput capacity. At the end of each aisle, a vertical lift brings the load to the
input/output conveyor. Load sequencing occurs as loads are
retrieved in the order required for fulfillment operations.
The Multishuttle unit offers throughput rates that are three to
four times higher than those offered by a typical miniload AS/RS,
according to the manufacturer. (Dematic, www.dematic.com)
Dispatch match: Prophesy Transportation Solutions has introduced the next generation of its DispatchSeries trucking software.
Prophesy DispatchSeries Version 6 incorporates a number of
enhancements, including an improved Load Scheduler module. In
addition to assigned and enroute loads, the Load Scheduler now
depicts completed loads. Users are able to view up to eight days’
worth of load history in the module.
The new version also includes a Last Commodity Tracking feature, which automatically tracks the last commodity hauled in a
trailer and displays this information to the user at the time of load
assignment. If multiple commodities were hauled in a single load,
the names of all the commodities are displayed.
In addition, the enhanced software allows users to configure
trailer washout alerts to notify them when a washout is required
after hauling a specific commodity. Information regarding the
times, locations, and types of washouts that have been performed
on each trailer is stored for reporting and alerting purposes.
An Alert Center has also been added to the software, allowing
users to create custom alerts to enforce business rules and monitor driver appointments. These custom alerts appear when a rule
is violated or a metric falls outside a defined threshold, as in the
case of insufficient revenue per loaded mile. (Prophesy
