Four-wheelin’: Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. unveils its new
line of 8-Series four-wheel AC electric lift trucks. Available in
4,000- to 6,500-pound load capacities (including a new
5,500-pound capacity model), the vehicles are suited for virtually every indoor material handling need, from food and
beverage to general warehousing and distribution center
usage, the manufacturer says.
The new lift trucks deliver longer run times and
offer quicker acceleration for more productivity, efficiency, durability, and safety. Their AC-powered system is composed of a series of
subsystems—each of which either conserves or regenerates power to maximize
operational productivity between battery charges. The motor features a “power
keep” function, which is designed to compensate for battery depletion and corresponding loss of performance, allowing for longer run times and more consistent
power output.
Improved ergonomics and expanded leg room provide for greater operator comfort. The vehicles also feature a standard ultra-comfort vinyl full suspension seat with
four-way adjustability and increased forward/backward seat adjustment. (Toyota

Open for business: Psion unveils Open Source Mobility (OSM), an evolution of its
business model that’s designed to dramatically reduce customers’ total cost of
ownership.
OSM will allow Psion to fully extend the modular approach to customers and partners in future editions of its modular product platform. Because it will use open,
standards-based interfaces, Psion will be able to extend the useful life of products in
the field by replacing defective or obsolescent modules, rather than replacing the
whole product. (Psion, www.psionteklogix.com)

Cutting edge: Ranpak, a manufacturer of paper
packaging solutions, has introduced a cutting
device called the FillPak TT Cut Mechanism. The
device, which can be customized to fit new and
existing Ranpak FillPak TT void-fill converters, is
designed to shorten packing times and minimize
material waste by allowing operators to automatically set and cut dispensed paper, rather
than manually tearing it.
Featuring an Electronic Delivery System (EDS)
mode, the FillPak TT Cut Mechanism allows
operators to set a pad length from 12 inches to
10 feet, then dispense and cut the pads to
length automatically or via a foot pedal command. To help maintain uptime, the device has
an easy-to-remove cover that allows for quick
access to machine internals in case of a paper
jam. (Ranpak Corp., www.ranpak.com)
No wires: Vocollect, a developer of voice-centric
solutions for mobile workers, announces the
availability of Vocollect’s wireless headset, the
SRX, on the Intermec CK3 rugged mobile computer. The solution helps mobile workers in
warehouses and distribution centers achieve the
productivity and accuracy benefits of voice with
even greater freedom of mobility.
The combination of the Vocollect SRX headset,
Vocollect Voice software, and Intermec CK3
results in a solution that’s well suited to tough
and demanding DC/warehouse environments.
The CK3 delivers the productivity and accuracy
improvements of voice, advanced imaging,
mobile printing, and RFID applications for mis-sion-critical distribution applications. With no
cables to connect or clips to attach, the SRX and
CK3 combination gives workers greater range of
movement, resulting in increased productivity,
convenience, and safety.
Vocollect Voice on the CK3 leverages
Vocollect’s client software, device management
software, and process logic software with a host
of client-based tools and a wide variety of applications to support mobile workers performing
tasks like picking, replenishment, put-away, and
cycle-counting. (Vocollect, www.vocollect.com)
Green choice: EcoPolyBlend spill control pallets
from Justrite Mfg. are an eco-friendly solution
that protects against groundwater contamination
to meet EPA requirements. The containment pallets, which come in two-drum and four-drum
configurations, are made of 100 percent recycled polyethylene. The pallets’ green claims have
been validated by an independent, third party:
UL Environment, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Underwriters Laboratories.
The units feature wide forklift pockets for easy
relocation. (Justrite Mfg., www.justritemfg.com)
