; Keeping their cool. Evergreen Line has
purchased 2,000 PrimeLine refrigeration
units from Carrier Transicold. The
PrimeLine units will provide cooling for
high-respiration perishables, while reducing power consumption and carbon emissions. The units will be used on new 40-foot containers that
will replace some of the oldest equipment in Evergreen’s fleet.
; Banking on it. IFCO, a provider of reusable plastic containers (RPCs), is helping the California Association of Food
Banks supply its 43 member food banks with fresh produce.
IFCO offers growers the use of its RPCs for packing and transportation, and then retrieves the empty containers from the
food banks at IFCO’s expense.
; Scan and deliver. China Post has awarded Accu-Sort
Systems a contract for several multi-sided AV6010 camera
bar-code scanner tunnels. The AV6010 is a long-range, high-speed camera bar-code scanner that reads 1D and 2D sym-bologies and supports OCR, video coding applications, and
certified dimensioning. China Post is buying the units as part
of a major technology upgrade at its parcel facilities.
; Reaching the world. The U.N.’s World Food Programme
(WFP), the largest food aid agency in the world, has adopt-ed the GT Nexus logistics management data platform. The
platform, which is being used to better manage WFP’s vast
network of food deliveries around the world, can be
accessed by WFP field personnel with limited tech infrastructure through standard Web browsers.
; Tanks a lot. Cat Lift Trucks has announced the delivery of
the first new P8000-P12000/PD8000-PD12000 series internal combustion, pneumatic tire lift trucks to Columbian
Tec Tank’s manufacturing facility in Parsons, Kan. The vehicles
will be used to move carbon and stainless steel products
throughout TecTank’s 250,000-square-foot facility.

; Foot first. Global 3PL Damco is working with Puma North
America to map the carbon footprint of the Puma
Sportlifestyle brand’s supply chain operations. Damco will
help track Puma North America’s carbon emissions from the
point of cargo ownership at foreign ports to the United States
and on through the DCs to customer warehouses and stores.
