Making waves: UPS has launched a new ocean freight service
that provides up to 20 percent faster door-to-door delivery from
Japan. UPS’s Preferred LCL Ocean Freight service combines the
strength of UPS’s North American ground network with containerized ocean services. It provides container freight station (
CFS)-to-door delivery from Japan to the United States in as little as 11 to
18 days, depending upon the destination.
After arriving at a West Coast port, the shipments will move to a
trucking network operated by UPS to support air freight, ensuring
faster transit and day-definite delivery to more U.S. destination
points. In the case of U.S. East Coast destinations, the preferred
service will cut five to six days off current standard-service transit
times.
In addition to speed, UPS’s Preferred LCL Ocean Freight service
gives businesses full shipment visibility via UPS’s technology solutions, like Quantum View Manage or Flex Global View. The new
UPS service is now available between Japan and the United States,
and will be extended to include additional countries in Asia over
the next six months. (UPS, www.ups.com)
Seeing the lite: Cubic Designs has
introduced Cubic LiteRail, a steel
handrail system equipped with a fully
contained lighting system. Designed to
safeguard elevated areas while also
providing security lighting that defines
walkways, LiteRail can be installed on
stairways and around loading docks,
production areas, and assembly lines.
Cubic LiteRail is engineered to meet
all building codes, including uniform and
point load requirements, the company
says. LiteRail features an intermediate railing connection that sim-plifies installation and allows for quick expansion of handrail sections. It incorporates square tubing that is stronger and easier to
clean than conventional pipe fitting designs, according to the manufacturer. The underside of the continuous top rail is equipped with
factory-installed LED lighting for a finished appearance.
Cubic LiteRail is available in double- or triple-level systems, and
in custom designs. The handrail is protected with a durable powder coat finish that is available in 14 colors. Custom colors and fin-ishes are also available upon request. (Cubic Designs,
